Upon opening of drawings on occasion this pop up will prompt and ask for whether I want to save Drawing1.dwg....

Not sure why that is (I don't have any Drawing1.dwg open most of the times). Can be rather annoying when publishing.

You may have the SDI (Single Document Interface) system variable set so that only one drawing can be open at a single time. Check the SDI variable and ensure it is set to 0.

Enter SDI on the Command Line, then enter 0 as the value.

No, it is NOT set to 1. I have multiple drawings open all the time.

What is your STARTUP system variable set to? You can set it to '2' to completely disable the drawing1 thing, however this is a workaround. Example: testing on my end, startup at 0, I can open multiple files without drawing1 being prompted for a save.

Check out what your STARTUP variable is set at, and report back....

IF you open AutoCAD
AND a blank drawing is loaded
AND that drawing is modified (i.e. DBMOD is not 0)

.... that drawing is unnamed but it will be called "Drawing1.dwg" in the drawing tab, and it will remain OPEN if you open a second drawing.

Then if you decide to close AutoCAD, you will be prompted to save it.

OR if SDI=1, you will be prompted to save it at the moment you execute the OPEN command.

The PUBLISH command can change SDI and/or FILEDIA. If you are on 2016 or later, you can configure the sysvar monitor to watch SDI.
