do you have express tools? You can flatten a spline and it will convert it. I dont think spline conversion using the polyline command was added until recently

hi. I'm working with ACAD 2004. I have a spline I would like to convert to a polyline. I've seen numerous posts saying this can be done using the PEDIT command. If I try to follow those instructions, I get a message telling me that what I selected was not a valid polyline.

Can someone tell me how to do this with my antique version of ACAD?

Hi,

>> I've seen numerous posts saying this can be done using the PEDIT command

Not with AutoCAD 2004.

If my remembering is correct then yo might save your drawing back to DXF12, that converts splines to polylines.

You can convert a spline to a polyline with the splinedit command. I am not sure if the command is available in 2004. After giving the command input the P option (polyline)and then enter the level of smoothness you want. If the original spline lies on a plane a polyline will be created. If the spline did not lie on a plane you will get a 3dpoly. You can convert a 3dpoly to individual lines with explode.

I attempted to install express tools using the install disk but it wasn't in the list of features. I can change an arc to a polyline but not an ellipse. An arc doesn't give me the area I need. (I'm laying out an aircraft instrument panel.). I'm going to see see if i can generate an arc that has an area close to half an ellipse. I'll get back with results.

Jim
