To add a real texure to a 3D solid object for 3D printing you will need to do some 3D operations on the surace of the object. For example, to add the following 3D testure to a cylinder.=:

I made a section cut at an angle through the cylinder. The result was a region which was the exploded to form an ellipse. A triangular shape was swept along the ellipse with the resulting solid subracted from the cylinder. A knurling effect could be achieved by using sections in a mirrored direction, Or, you might consider use a helix.

For freeform geometry like the handle of an iron I'd start with multiple sections and sweep a shape around them. For bumps, create a block of a sphere then use the divide command to array them along a spline that is on the surface of the solid. Then use UNION to merge them with you base model.

I wan't to add real texture on solid, exportable for 3D printing.
Like grip for handle or bumped finish
All my tentatives with the material library end up with fake 3D on flat surface when exporting to .stl
Thanks
