I have the same issue, but unfortunately changing the shortcut settings to "maximized" didn't change anything.

This bug has persisted across different versions of AutoCAD (2016 and 2018 at least) on different computers using Windows 10 and I'm getting tired of dealing with it every single time I open the program, which is many times a day. If it's a Windows 10 problem, every other program I use has addressed it. Seems like some code in AutoCAD still needs to be updated for Windows 10.

The problem:
When opening the program, either directly from a shortcut or the actual acad.exe application, or by double-clicking a drawing, AutoCAD opens up almost maximized, but not quite. The program thinks its maximized because the Restore Down option appears in the upper right.

But, as you can see form my attachments below, it is not actually maximized. The red is my Desktop showing behind it. I then have to click on the Restore Down button, where it then changes to a maximize button and reduces the AutoCAD window size on the screen.

After I do that, I can click the Maximize button that is now available and it will fill the entire screen as intended (see attachment below).

Note:
I auto-hide the taskbar, but if it isn't hidden, then AutoCAD opens up behind the taskbar and then has to be restored down and remaximized before it will fill the screen properly.

My TASKBAR variable is set to 0 in AutoCAD.

Hi @nrz13,

I have seen other forum posts similar to yours.

I tested this condition on my computer and found that it does open maximized. I don't doubt this is happening on your side but I am not able to duplicate the behavior. So, I am wondering if you could provide a NFO file for me. I am curious about your OS, your graphics card make and model, your AutoCAD version, whether you open AutoCAD on your primary display or a secondary one.

If you are running a nVidia card do you also have the Desktop Manager installed? And, if so, have you made any changes to the settings? How about in the nVidia Control Panel?

Can you tell me your display scaling and resolution too?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

John:

My system information is below in my signature (work system). The specs of the 2016 workstation I was using before this new computer are:
AutoCAD 2016 SP1, Windows 10 Pro, Intel i7-2600k, 16GB RAM, AMD V4900, Samsung SSD, same monitors I have now.

No customizations to the AMD software. Running monitors at native resolution with 100% scaling. I open AutoCAD on my primary monitor, but the same things happens if I open it on my secondary monitor (which has no taskbar).

I have the NFO file saved. Do you want the NFO from the old workstation as well? If you PM me your email address I'll send it/them to you.

Thanks

This is what I get every time I open a new session of AutoCAD.

The window control buttons at the top right are behind the AutoCAD help buttons and the command line and Layout tabs at the bottom left drop below the Windows taskbar.

I can resolve it by collapsing the window and then maximising it again.

Windows 7 Pro

AutoCAD 2018.1.1

nVidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti

By the way, I should add that STARTMODE = 0, if you couldn't tell from the screenshots.

If I open just the program, and press CTRL+N to start a new drawing or CTRL+O to open a new drawing, then the window resizes to full maximization as soon as the keyboard shortcut is pressed. Or, if I drag a drawing from Windows File Explorer into the blank AutoCAD window, it resizes to the full maximization.

If I double-click to open an existing drawing from Windows File Explorer (my usual and preferred method), it opens as I described in my original post. Pressing CTRL+N or CTRL+O does nothing, but after I go through the dialog and open another drawing, the program window resizes to the correct dimension. Or, if I double-click on another drawing after the first one is opened, the program window will resize to the correct full maximize amount.

A workaround solution might be to create a .lisp file that does:

Every time a new program window is opened, then:
Open x.dwt (where "x" is your default blank template)
Close x.dwt

If the program is opened without a drawing, I don't think he .lsp will run (but in my scenario, the problem fixes itself as soon as a drawing is loaded, so that's not an issue).

If it's opened by double-clicking a drawing, it would open your drawing, open the blank template, then close the blank template and you'd be left with the original drawing you opened and the AutoCAD program window properly maximized. This would obviously only want to be done once when loading the program, not every time a drawing is opened. Not sure if that's possible or not.

Maybe a simple solution but I had a user having the same issue.

Right-click the shortcut you use to launch AutoCAD, select Properties. Next to run, select Maximized.

I have the same issue, but unfortunately changing the shortcut settings to "maximized" didn't change anything.

That worked beautifully in Windows 10. Thanks! I had to unpin from the taskbar, then rc the shortcut, hit Properties and Run: Maximized instead of Normal.

Unpinning and repinning to the Task Bar seemed to do the trick for me.

This cured the issue for me. Seems to look at this setting even if you are kicking the application off by double clicking a file.
