Hello people! I have a question. I am in love with the simplicity of homestyler, an online program by autocad that lets you design interiors.

https://www.homestyler.com/floorplan/?lang=en_US&assetId=674012df-5646-42f3-8849-4fae1db24f3f

The only problem i have is that it doesn't allow me to upload my floor plans and items are limited.

Is there a way to download it to pc and make it more customized? (upload items and floors)

If that isn't possible, is there a way to transform autocad to homestyler? I'm amateur, i don't even know how to create a wall on autocad... 😞

Is there a similiral plugin for autocad like this? Please help!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I had heard (public) rumors that this was going to be acquired by Autodesk but I am not aware whether this has actually happened or not.

I did take a look at the program and it appears to have a mobile version in addition to the web version. From the File menu, you can save your design to a DWG which is (I am assuming) an AutoCAD drawing format.

This would at least get the base geometry into AutoCAD for you. If you have a design in Homestyler that you can share, I am happy to see what it looks like when brought into AutoCAD. From there I could certainly point you to some videos and tutorials to get you started in AutoCAD if that is where you want to work.

You can export your work in Homestyler to DWG, but it does not look like Homestyler will import DWG files. Perhaps you can print your DWG file to PNG and then import the PNG file into Homestyler ?

This warning means that the file contains information that will be hard to share with older AutoCAD file formats. You should be able to work with it in AutoCAD 2018.

You are welcome to attach it to a post if you would like me to take a look.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have attached another copy of your file.

I took the original you had attached and ran EXPORTOAUTOCAD and saved it back a version. This should eliminate the message you saw previously.

When you open the file it will open in the model(space) tab. This is typically where you will do all of your drafting at 1:1.

The next tab to the right is called Floor Plan. This is the tab you will select when you want to print to a PDF or printer.

You will see a rectangular window through which you see the "model" or floor plan. I set this view's zoom factor at 1/4"=1'-0". I also set the paper size to be 11x17.

Let me know where you want to go from here and I will try to help.

The dwg that we imported into AutoCAD has no 3D information in it. Everything is truly plan (2D). I am not sure that the Homestyler allows a 3D export.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you give me some idea of the scope of this project? Is it a one-time deal? Are you a designer/architect?

Depending on the desired results, AutoCAD may or may not be the best choice to proceed. Please give me some details so I might better direct you to what is possible.

Hi @Anonymous, I apologize that I did not get back to you last night (meetings - ugh).

This is really a tough call. While it is certainly possible to do the 3D construction of your model and also do the renders in AutoCAD, it might require quite a bit of work. Have you set a project deadline?

I am thinking that perhaps Revit LT might be a more appropriate application as it will draw this type of construction natively.

For instance, when you draw a wall in AutoCAD, you draw two lines. If you want the wall to be in 3D then you have to extrude the lines (just one method of course).

In Revit, when you draw wall, you select the type of wall you want and then you place it in the plan and tell it how tall it is.

Any application will require some learning and I want to make sure that you invest your time to the best advantage.

Here is a link to a page describing the capabilities of Revit and Revit LT.

Friend, AutoCAD is nothing, NOTHING, like Homstyler and you'll only get the results after studying/working at it for a very long time or hiring someone to do it for you.

Homestyler is dead and no one seems interested in reviving it or its abilities or the consumer market. Sorry, what you want isn't going to happen unless you want to invest a few months in training.

@Anonymous !

Why don't you use Pcon.planner ?

It is free, both 2D and 3D and 100% DWG... !

Okay, i tried Pcon.planner, its easy but i didn't liked the finish result of the rendering (looks like a videogame)

So i contacted my brother (who studied autocad in school) and he said that i can try REVIT and transform a 2d drawing to a 3d house very easily, it also has many many options for customization (he sounded excited about this program). So...i will try it 🙂

Thanks everyone!
