Hey,

I'll try to give you one examlpe of my problem:

There are two parallel lines next to each other, the distance between them is 1 unit. My problem is, when I grab one of them in the middle, and want to move it ortogonally, in the direction of the other one next to it, with let's say 1.1 units, it'll move on top of the other line, regardless of the given distance. Unless I zoom in on them. I have other issues similar to this, it's just an example.

It started to do this a couple of months ago, I don't know why. I hope someone will have a solution.

Cheers,

Dorka

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> My problem is, when I grab one of them in the middle, and want to move it ortogonally, in the direction of the other one next to it, with let's say 1.1 units, it'll move on top of the other line, regardless of the given distance. <<

i suggest to increase Precision from DDUNITS command >> Precision and make sure from your distances OR your Osnap ( mid of ) catch the mid of other line and ignoring your distance ( you may need to turn it off ). if not fix please try to make a screencast that describe your issue .

Regards,

You are obviously new to Autocad,

Welcome to the forum

Turn your object snap off before you do that, it is snapping to the auto snap settings which are turned on

Thanks for your reply. I'm not exactly new to autoCAD, and I tried turning off osnap of course, the problem stays the same.

I'm currently working in AutoCAD Civil3D 2014. I wanted to see if I have the same experience in other versions, so I tried the same in AutoCAD 2016 and AutoCAD 2014, and there this issue is not present. So I'm sure it's just some setting I can't seem to find.

If I understood right ...
I think when you move a line from a point to another point writing 1,1 , it will move to point with coordinates 1,1 but if you are using dynamic input (dynmode =1) , it will move 1,1 as a distance from picked pint .
Hope this help you

@mrteng wrote:
... when you move a line from a point to another point writing 1,1 , it will move to point with coordinates 1,1 but if you are using dynamic input (dynmode =1) , it will move 1,1 as a distance from picked pint .....

That's not the issue -- Post 1 is about 1.1 [decimal number] as a distance, not 1,1 [X,Y coordinates].

My first thought was that running Osnap is on, probably including the MIDpoint mode, and I was going to ask whether the same happens if you give it a distance significantly different from the distance between objects, such as 3, or with the 1.1 distance if the second Line is not there. But if as the OP says, Osnap is not on, I have no other ideas.

@Anonymous wrote:

Just to confirm -- are you talking about grip-editing, i.e. picking a Line's midpoint grip, moving the cursor in the direction you want to go, with Ortho on, and typing in the 1.1 distance?

If so, whether or not Snap is on [the positional/grid variety, not Object Snap], as some have questioned, would be irrelevant. If not, can you be more specific about what you are doing to move it?

True. I've tried it with snaps and grids and grips.

A typed in distance always overrides everything else regardless.

The OP never actually says he types in the distance 1.1 ,just moves it that far. He could have dynamic input on and just be using the screen distance display.

I think we just need clarification of exactly the steps the OP is taking to move the line as suggested by others.
