Solids displaced from grips

We continue to have 3D solids we create and by a 3rd party software shift away from their grips.

I have read several forums on the subject, and it appears it have been an issue for years without a solution. I've seen 2007 within the blogs.

Here is what is happening,

Work within the .dwg with many saves, everything is ok. Close and save the .dwg. Open at a later time and some of the solids have shifted away from their grips. It can be anywhere from just a fraction of an inchm to hundreds of feet.

This is reeking havoc in BIM coordination, as the shifted item will now clash with other trades, despite the grips being in the original location. many of the drawings have a large number of parts, and theses shifts can not always be located, (and should not have to be), before exporting to clients

Have you checked the base point in the solid drawing?

I'm not sure what you mean by check the base point? If it is what I think your asking, it is 0,0,0. UCS is in world.

So, if BASE = 0,0,0, is the object also drawn at the origin?

No, it is elevated. It has also been copied around several time in the drawing, but it is the only one to offset.

The blue spot on the image you attached represents the base point of that block.

If it's not where it's supposed to be, open the block drawing, type base and pick the correct insertion point. Then save and exit.

Now try inserting the new block (make sure to either purge or update the old one in your drawing).

It's not a block. It is a 3D solid generated from 3rd party software. The blue dots are the grips accociated with the solid, two end points, and one center point. If it was a block insertion issue, then all of them in the drawing would be like that.

This is also happening with cylinders produced in AutoCAD. Sometimes the entity will lose all geometry and become a cube.

Does it happen after a certain number of instances of the block, or is it just random?

Could it be a graphics problem?

Is this what you are experiencing? If so - what version of AutoCAD are you using, and what other apps are sending you solids?

I apologize if these questions seem basic, but I'm trying to track down the similarities between you and my client:

1. Type ABOUT - what version of 2018 are you using (2018.1.1 is latest)

2. Where are the files stored (local or network?)

3. What is your ISAVEPERCENT set to?

4. Do you get any files from 3DS MAX?

5. What is the earliest version of AutoCAD to have touched the file?

I don't believe so, we only recieve .dwg's from those we colaberate with, they may be doing a conversion before sending to us.

The templetes we use have been around for years.

This has happened in 2017 as well, with window 7 and windows 10.

ISAVEPERCENT is set to 100? Are you working through a VPN or is your network extraordinarily slow?

If not, try changing it to 0 on all systems and see if that prevents the problem from cropping up. Years ago that was responsible for corrupting some drawings.

Unfortunately I don't know of a way to fix a broken solid aside from recreating it. Even using SOLEDIT to CHECK it reports it as a good solid. If you RECOVER the file in 2017 it deletes the offending solids.

Correction - I saw an earlier post that had a like to <<THIS>> vba app that fixes the problem. I used it and it worked for my model.

Thanks, but the file did not make the corrections for us, but we will change the system variable to 0 instead of 100.

You can try the BREP command on the solids - unfortunately that moves the grips TO the object, not the other way around.
