topic Problem with shift to add to selection when there is a wipeout in the background in AutoCAD Forum

Dear AutoCAD forum,

So in my selection options, I check shift to add to selection (tired of constantly hitting esc key). One problem with this set up is that I can't add to selection if there is a wipeout in the background. It seems that Shift+left mouse defaults to selecting wipeout when my cursor is over a wipeout.

The first attachment is my selection setting.

The second attachment is my best way of showing what happened. In it I first selected the line on top, then hold shift and select the line on the bottom. Instead, CAD added the wipeout to my selection.

Is there a way to turn off the shift+left mouse = wipeout selection? Thanks.

What about using SELECTIONCYCLING with shift to select?

Did you try to change PICKAUTO values ? (windowing)

Is the variable SORTENTS set to 127 ? Its default value.

You still can MAJ+Space objects if you don't use SELECTIONCYCLING

Thanks for the response.

Chris,

I am not sure what to do with the selectioncycling command. The command prompt just asks if I want to turn it on or not. Not sure how to use it with shift.

Tramber,

I didn't change PICKAUTO value. it is 5 now, and SORTENTS is 127.

Not sure what MAJ+Space is. Please elaborate.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, if you turn on SELECTIONCYCLING, when you click on an object that has multiple items in the same location, you'll get a dialog box that appears that allows you to select the objects from a list of the objects in the same location.

...and MAJ means SHIFT, stupid I am. I use several languages and sometimes mix them, very sorry !

SHIFT+Space is the new manual cycling key combination to selection cycles (it used to be CTRL alone a long time ago) but you may know it.

I tried your configuration :

Wasn't be able to select the wipeout as you seem obliged to

SORTENTS to 127 means that the order of the objects is not the problem. 127 is ok. The mouse should click the newest object first.

Does your mouse click exactly where you...click ? Didi you turn on/off material acceleration. I don't know, maybe the click is just near but not on the object !?

Edit : your image tends to show that this is not the point.

Sorry for my late reply. I recently found out why my shift+left click always and only select wipeout if there is one in the background.

Apparently, wipeout is considered as an image in autocad, and my computer was set up so that shift+left click selects an image that my cursor is in, in my case a wipeout. It seems to overwrite the selection cycling functions.

This article explains how to turn on/off image selection.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-map-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/MAP3D-Use/files/GUID-06EF5E60-89B7-408E-B4E6-6EEB74012789-htm.html

Now I am going to have trouble selecting wipeout 😞
