Here's the issue. We have blocks and everything inside the block is on layer 0. We put the block on some layer and when we try to freeze the layer the block is on it tries to freeze layer 0 too. This occurs on some machines in our office and not on others so I'm guessing it's a system variable. Can someone please tell me what it is. Also, we never had this issue in any version of the software prior to 2018.

Hi,

a normal block reference behaviour:

1) blockdef objects built on layer 0 , at insert will lay on current layer.

example: block box (a retangle built with 4 line) define on layer 0

create new layer "boxes", insert box...all 4 lines are on layer "boxes", inheriting it's color and linetype (and all other layer manager properties)

of cours when boxes layer is freeze, you don't see the box block

2) blockdef objects name box build on layer1, layer2, layer3, layer4 (each line on each layer)

create new layer "a_boxes", insert box, each line will lay on it origin layer but if you freeze layer "a_boxes"

any object on a_boxes is vanished including all box inserts yes yes!

but if instead you turn off layer "a_boxes" you will see the box and thats is the different between freeze and off.

Moshe

Hi,

Type LAYFRZ click Enter, then click Settings, choose Block Selection,

And finally choose Block.

Now select your objects, and you'll see that the Block and its layer will be frozen,

But the nested objects layer is still unfrozen

Are you freezing from Layer Manager or the icon on the Layers II toolbar (which is the "LAYFRZ" command)?

LAYFRZ has settings on how it will freze layers in blocks. See attached.

>> it tries to freeze layer 0 too

What does that mean ... it TRIES to freeze? How do you recognize that AutoCAD TRIES something ... and what happens then, did it succeed or fail, do you get an error message or any more info's shown in the command-line?

Whenever something unusual happens then please make sure you have installed all updates. Start AutoCAD ==> command _ABOUT, the version should be "AutoCAD 2018.1.1"

What the user wants is:

If you have, let's say, 4 rectangles on layer 0, you create a block from these rectangles,

Then you create a new layer let's say layer 1 and you put the block in it.

What the user wants is that when you freeze the block, only the layer 1 should be affected,

So the layer 1 is frozen now, the rectangles inside the block are hidden, even though they are on layer 0,

But layer 0 is not frozen, and that will protect other objects, that are not inside the block from being frozen.

>> So the layer 1 is frozen now, the rectangles inside the block are hidden,

Sorry, that is how "Freeze" works, if the layer of a block-insertion is frozen then all content of the block is invisible ... contrary to layer switching OFF

But I even don't understand the "tries to freeze" ...

That's the issue. Never had it before 2018. Should be able to use the
layer freeze in a viewport and not have it turn layer 0 off.

I've passed it on to the Engineer having the issue. The thing is, my computer doesn't do all that so there's got to be a default setting somewhere that's making it where he can't just do layfrz on the block and have it freeze without it turning off layer 0. If he uses your solution will it become the default?

I had that problem and it turned out that clicking a different part of the block with the LAYFRZ tool got it to properly freeze the layer other than zero. Try clicking other parts of the line work that composes the block. I was trying to freeze a drawing title block. It tried to freeze later 0 when I clicked on the text component. But, when I clicked on the line it all froze correctly on the block’s insertion layer.
