I'm not sure I fully understand you problem, but I'm glad you figured it out anyway. I would also suggest to work in a wireframe view when editing 3D objects as it will give you better control over your snaps and others. Playing with the Dynamic UCS function (F6) button can also be very handy when editing or drawing based on existing 3D objects.

Please share some screenshots of your solution. It might be helpful to other people in the future.

How can I cut away a model temporarily to modify inside and to put it back together ? Section view only works in layout and when I use slicethen isolate the side I'm not working on, then when I'm through making my modifications on one surface and unisolate I notice the drawing doesn't line up back properly. Picture this , you have a model of a house and you want to make a drawing or add a 2D block on one wall, so I need to go inside the room and work on one or more walls but the only way I can do that is either viewing it from the inside, but is there some other or easier way of working on a wall inside a 3D model ?

Ok I sorted it out, same splice command but instead of isolate objects I used hide objects and they lined up perfectly when I selected show isolated objects, don't know if it was a fluke previously or the hidden just works better than the isolate objects.

3DCLIP command works pretty good. Use it to access a window that lets you adjust the front & back clipping planes on for the area your working on. You may need to lock foreground object layers so you can select thru them as well.
