Maybe you already can do that without exploding, but to know if that is possible with your structure or not needs to look to your data. 😉

Question about exploding 3D objects

So I've been making benches in 3D model space, and now that I've got everything built I've noticed that on the back of the bench there is a rectangular shape on one of the sides.

Question: Can I explode the 3D object, remove the rectangular shape, and group it back into a 3D object, or am I going to have to rebuild all of these backs? (There's a lot of backs and would rather just surgically remove the shapes if its an option.)

Note: The shape is only on one side (face) of the object in quest and the shape itself isn't 3D, but it is grouped with the back.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

>> Can I explode the 3D object, remove the rectangular shape,

>> and group it back into a 3D object

Not very safe, this workflow ... if you remove something it most probably can't be rebuilt.

Also building up a full functional 3D-Solid is more than just group a few 3D-Faces together 😉

If you can upload the dwg-file and let us know which version of AutoCAD you are using we can take a look into your object.

I'm using 2018, and I've made a copy of the object and isolated it to test, but it looks like you're right, once it's blown up it doesn't look like there's a way to regroup/rejoin the PLines into a 3D object again.

Note to self: Guess that would be a good idea suggest to put in the hat for idea for future improvements?

Here's the .dwg, I made a copy of the 3D object in question and made it orange, but all the backs of these benches have the same problem.
