Well, whoever drew this xref put a ton of things on layer 0 that they shouldn't have. So I moved them. Problem solved.

Thanks for the input!

I cleaned up a drawing, changed all the layer colors to the same screened back color, and xref'd into my working drawing. VISRETAIN is set properly on both drawings ("1" in the xref, and "0" in my working drawing).

Layer 0 of the xref shows up in my working drawing in the default color (white), not what I changed it to; and, it still shows up even when I go into the xref and turn it off/freeze it. I have no idea what the problem could be.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for looking.

I am not sure to understand your issue.

The objects on Layer0 (xref) are match to your xref-insertion-layer in your working drawing.

All other Layers should display like your setting in your xref.

Visretain: only the value in working drawing is important = 0 = read Layerproperties from external file .

So what is the problem?
Sorry for my missunderstanding.

This has been around for a while: see >>HERE<<

The basic rule is - do not draw on layer 0 (unless you are creating a block).

HI,

>> it still shows up even when I go into the xref and turn it off/freeze it. <<

as i understand .... you may need to check that layer 0 Not current in your working dwg .
