Casting or not casting shadows in rendering Autocad 2018

Hello,

I can not find the shadows settings in the properties palette of the lights.

I would like to disable the shadows generated by some lights in the 3D model.

Hi @Ali_Amine,

If you are in a 3D workspace, you can find the No Shadows button in the Visualize tab of the Ribbon.

Thank you. But even when the button is turned off, shadows still display.

In this new render engine I also can not choose to display shadows by light.

I can not find any usefull informations about the RAPID RT engine.

The Rapid RT render engine handles lights and shadows differently than the previous render engine you might be used to.

First, here is a comparison of the differences, which should help you make the adjustment to the new engine:

About the Differences Between Rendering In the Current and An Earlier Release

Specifically regarding shadow settings, this is likely the information you're looking for:

All lights generate shadows. The properties of individual user-defined lights related to shadows is ignored, and all objects cast and receive shadows in the scene.
Note: Shadow related properties of a user-defined light are ignored, along with the current value of the Shadow Display property of all graphical objects in a drawing.

If I understand, there are less options in this render engine. Always casting shadows, it's too bad .

So the button shown in the upper answer does not have any mean anymore. Cast shadows or not, we will always have shadows?

Hi @Ali_Amine,

As I understand the new Render engine is designed to provide a realistic lighting environment. Lights always cast shadows so yes, they cannot be totally eliminated.

I am researching to see what the Shadows button (the one I showed previously) really does (if anything) with the new render environment.

I talked with one of the program specialists and she gave me a drawing that allowed me to turn off the shadows. Can you share your file with me so i can try to get it to work properly there too?

I made a simple drawing (attached) that shows the behavior.

Thank you for your answer.

I maybe forgot to add that, the shadows are on anyway in the rendered image.

In your attached file it is a conceptual or realistic view, in that case the button (cast / not cast shadows) works.

In rendered view the shadows are always visible. I did not find a way to manage casting / not casting for the sun and the default Autocad lights.

Thank you for your attempts to find a solution.

Actually I have no specific file. It is during a training (I am instructor in Paris, France) that I encountered the problem of the shadows on AUTOCAD 2018.

Still, please find attached a file I was testing on.

I made a quick video showing that the condition of the Sky determines whether or not the shadows are showing up in my renders of your file. Let me know if that helps and if you can duplicate the behavior.

I have repeated it all. Still shadows on each state.

Did you try this on AUTOCAD 2018 ?

Yes I tried this in AutoCAD 2018 and 2019 and now I can't duplicate my results. I apologize. Give me a bit more time and I will get this figured out for you.

EDIT: I opened the Render Environment and turned on the environment and then turned off the Sky like I showed in my video. Can you try that? It does appear very fincky as it is hard to tell which settings get turned on and off with any of the icons. It sill throws a very slight shadow but I think I might be able to work on that too. Please let me know how it behaves for you.
