topic Autodesk 2018 user interface vs. Inventor UI in AutoCAD Forum

Hello community!

I have recently begun to use Autocad 2018 for my 3D modelling purposes. A number of years ago, I used inventor because I needed Inventor's ability to stimulate interactions between parts. For my new projects, Autocad is much more synergistic with my workflow. With one very annoying exception.

In Inventor, I was able to easily cancel a command in progress by just clicking anywhere in the window, However in Autocad, doing this immediately starts the select tool. This has become nearly unbearable because, to be honest sometimes in attempting to cancel a command, as I would in Inventor, I Just end up starting another command without noticing. That, as I am sure you can imagine, presents its own host of problems.

So my question is, Is there any way to change the behavior of the select tool to be click-and-drag, like Inventor, as opposed to Autocad's click-to-start-tool method?

Also, if there is a way to enable a direction-based context menu like that of inventor I would appreciate someone telling me how.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

>> In Inventor, I was able to easily cancel a command in progress by just clicking anywhere

>> in the window, However in Autocad, doing this immediately starts the select tool

What you see as annoying is for users working with AutoCAD an advantage.

In AutoCAD when you want to cancel a command simply press <ESC>

>> if there is a way to enable a direction-based context menu like that of inventor

No, AutoCAD does not have this option.

I recommend to learn to work with AutoCAD as AutoCAD works and with Inventor as Inventor has to be used.

As long as you try to work in AutoCAD as you would with Inventor (or vice versa) you are blocking yourselves from being efficient.
