looked into the background processes and found not one but 3 instances of the Chromium host executable (32 bit). I tried ending them but its exactly like playing whack-a-mole, bastards just keep popping back up

Hi there,

so this problem only stared a few weeks ago. Everytime i open Autocad (2017) it freezes at the start screen.

Ive tried reparing the install.
Ive stried disabling the antivirus software and windows firewalls.

It's installed on this machine as part of the Buidling Design Suite, all other programs in the suite work just fine (3DS Max + Revit).

Since we have a subscription for the suite, my boss suggested uninstalling it and upgrading the suite to the 2018 version.
Which we did.

and......
......it still FREEZES ON THE START SCREEN! AARRRGHHHH!!!!

There was one temporary work around i discovered before installing the new version.
As soon as the computer was booted up to the windows dekstop, i would have to open Autocad as fast as possible, and then select a random drawing from the previous documnets list. If i was fast enough, the program would open fine and work as normal - however, i could not close it, since starting the program again would lead to the freezing at the start screen again.

What is the problem here?

sounds to me like you have some sort of a process starting that is delayed, that is preventing the license check from happening (most common issue with hanging on the splash screen)

I've had my autocad hang occasionally on startup, but it is few and far between, a few types, in task manager I killed the chromium host processes, and the software continued loading.

that was my thinking aswell, ive now again resorted to the old "quicksilver" workaround to get 2018 working so i can get back to work, but this is still a problem id like to find a solution for.

As i said it only began a few weeks ago, and nothing new was installed in that time so i cant for the life of me figure out what is preventing it from opening - and even then, its only sticking it to Autocad, every other program in the suite works perfectly.
