Attach Image (PNG) Without Path Link

Hi All,

I want to attach an image file (PNG) to a drawing without a link to the original so that when I use the DWG in a different location, I can still see the image. Now, if I move it away from the original image, the image in the drawing changes to an empty box with the name of the image inside.

What I want is similar to attaching an xReg with a "Path type" of "No path" but when I attach the image with a "Path type" of "No path" it still acts as if it is referencing the original.

have you tried just pasting it into the file as an OLE object?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yes, this is what've been trying.

Ribbon: Insert>Reference>Attach
Clip and scale as necessary
Copy/Paste into another drawing

After step 3 and in the second drawing, the image is just an empty box with text of the name of the image.

If you don't want to use a path, just store the png in the same folder as the host dwg and it will find it.

Open the image in some sort of editor/viewer.
For Paint, in the ribbon --> Select --> Select all.
File menu (or ribbon) --> Copy (or [Ctrl]+C).
This will place the image into the clipboard.

Now back in AutoCAD --> command PASTESPEC and accept the defaults.
Use the properties pane to adjust the image (or SCALE using base/reference point...).

The image will now be embedded into the drawing file (and not referenced).

yes that works but then it runs into the problem of the image now printing out

yes that works but it runs into the problem of the image not printing when you try to plot it, also the image disappear after you close and reload it.

That can happen, try a different output driver (a typical install has 5 PDF choices, DWF and more).

Is the image placed on a NOPLOT layer? Confirm.

OR... Select the IMAGE, then in PROPERTIES change the BACKGROUND TRANSPARENCY setting.

This inserts as a picture, not ole. With the Embed parameter. Try this -AutoImportCAD
