topic How to find/change scale in model space in AutoCAD Forum

I'm working on a CAD file that I believe was previously traced from GoogleMaps. I have measurements and details I want to add, but when I type in the actual size of a line (5'6"), the line was huge relative to the rest of the drawing. Can I change the scale of the drawing to reflect full size measurements? Or, how do I find out what scale this drawing is in, in model space? It's clearly not actual size.

Thanks,

Justine

1You should always draw everything in model space full size at 1:1. You can scale the entire drawing to be correct with scale command with reference option. I'll include a screencast example. I made it a while ago, but I think in the example the rectangle shows a 3 foot side but it's true 1:1 size should be 5 feet.

You just need to know how long at least one line is in the drawing. Are there any dimensions on it at all or a note that tells you some measurement?

Hi,

>> Can I change the scale of the drawing to reflect full size measurements? <<

i guess you can .. and by Scale command ( Reference ) you can get it :

My post got spam filtered for some reason so here is the screencast I had in it. It's a SC of what imad explains. that I had made previously.

Perhaps this goes without saying, but in order for this (scaling up the objects based on a reference distance) to work there has to be some geometry in the drawing for which you know the "real" size. The larger the reference distance, the more accurate your scaling is likely to be (and vice-versa). Also, beware that all objects in the drawing may not re-size equally, depending on the accuracy of the original tracing. It might even be necessary to scale the drawing differently in the horizontal and vertical axes!
