Auto cad crash file wont open?

I was working on my masterplan today and auto cad wouldn't respond so i closed it down in task manager now when i go to restore the masterplan it says file not found.

when i click on the file where it is saved is it not a dwg file but a dwl2 and wont open ?

i hope someone can help me because the back up i have is old.

Have you saved the file at least once? If yes and if your system variable SAVETIME is not 0, then you should find a "filenameXXXX.sv$" file. This you can rename to filename.dwg. (In WINDOW the "supress file extensions" must be deactivated).

And, if your ISAVEBAK is not 0, you should find a filename.bak. This also can be renamed to filename.dwg.

The .dwl files are internal used files, not usefull for restoring.

I found that file but when i change its name and to dwg auto cad say cant not find specific file ?

Are you sure the visibility of the file extensions is not supressed? Before renaming you must see the extensions.

Start the Window Explorer. In any file list you must see the file names followed bny any .ext (see pic).

To enable their visibility: in The explorer go to (1) tools (?, I'm not sure in english) , then search in the next window for (2) "hide known extensions" (or similar). This marker must not be activated.

I have it auto saving when i work on it ?

i have a back up of it from yesterday but i have done alot on the master plan since then. shall i email you the files?

i just notice something when i change the name of the bak file to dwg the name changes but the extension does not still remains a bak file

Here is what the Windows Explorer dialog box mentioned by @j.palmeL29YX looks like in English.

To access the sv$ files open RECOVERY MANGER from the big red A drop down menu in AutoCAD and see if the file is listed there.

Okay so i did this and it has found the original drawing but also the auto save. when i click the auto safe the changes from yesterday are not on it ?

last auto save 17.55 that is around the time it crashed

Right after doing some reading what is going on ( i think is that the sv$ and the bak files that are linked to the drawing are located where the drawing is one my usb stick.

in auto cad recovery like the screen shot i attached. the sv$ and back locations that are linked to the drawing are located in temp folder? wouldnt the pathy be usb/bak not temp/?

I dont understand why i have the drawing that was auto saved today but the work i did is not there?

I found the problem. The sv$ is not reading

In recovery manager did you right-click on the .sv$ file and select Open or Recover or did you rename the file and try and open it? Try recovering or opening the .sv$ file from the recovery manager and see if it will repair or open it.

when i click on the sv$ file that is link to the drawing. in recovery nothing happens. I havent changed the name of it either?

No. Regardless where the current file is stored, the .sv$ files are stored where YOU say (said) - see image. The .bak files are stored where the current file is located.

And to search files in the Temp folder and try to open is a bad idea. Temp files are only for the internal use of AutoCAD, often only small pieces of a file and can't be renamed and opened.

A lot of reasons are possible. A muddle while saving the file, a failure with the connection to the USB, not enough disc-(USB-)space, some chaos during renaming files and others. I guess we can't reconstruct what you did. My suggestion: Before spending 5 days to find the case, repeat the lost work of the one day.

An additional suggestion: Don't never work with files on an USB stick - problems are to be expected.

That was poorly put. What I meaned was .tmp files. To open a .sv$ file preferably use the recover command as said above. If this unfortunately won't work - repeat your work at the drawing.
