I am just facing this issue, and found, that drawing (attached) shows NO warning in ACAD2018 (which i used), but in ACAD2021 yes, there is.

And thats the point - how can i prevent my documents from beeing infeected by this virus, when i can not detect that in 2018? How can i stop accepting EDU drawings from my colleagues/vendors/suppliers, (solution from Autodesk https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Educational-Plot-Stamp-Removal-Issues.html) when i can not detect that (in 2018)?

So i understand confusion/anger from users, who made nothing wrong, just peacefully doing their job on their legal versions of systems, and suddenly they are violating terms-of-use, due to EDU versions of drawings, which they can detect.

HI @Anonymous,

I am sorry that you are seeing the Educational Watermark. The presence indicates that at some point in time, your drawings did come in contact with drawings that were created in an educational version.

Autodesk does not support the removal of watermarks from designs created using software licensed by students or educators through Education Community. This software cannot be used for commercial, professional or any other for-profit purposes. It is intended that this watermark promote legitimate use of AutoCAD software licensed by students and educators through the Autodesk Education Community and any action to bypass the watermark is not permitted. Please see the following FAQ for more information and feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.

The educational watermark was just reintroduced so that is why you likely were unaware of the presence of this content.

There is an app in the App Store that should help you find all the files that have been affected.

The 2014 releases did not print the watermark, but the flag in the file was left as-is. There was a brief hiatus from the 2015 to the 2018 product releases which did mostly the same thing.

Chances are you've got some blocks or XREFs in your system somewhere, possibly off the internet, possibly worked on by an intern or rookie employee fresh out of school who took work home. Once a file with the EDU flag is used in another drawing the flag is added to that other file.

I would recommend you sweep your system, doing test plots on your block and XREF libraries (to PDF, which should also show the stamp without wasting paper). Find out what's contaminated and isolate them to avoid further problems. Then do the same with your drawings.

We have a similar problem. We have 5 licenses from 2014 up to 2019. We had the problem previously and solved it by converting to DXF and back to DWG. Very laborious. We are an Architectural practice and have thousands of drawing files, we cannot sweep through them all to find which are infected. We believe the original problem may have come from a internet furniture block imported from a consultant's drawing many years back. As the previous versions did not high light the issue, it has spread throughout our drawings. We are legitimate license holders and have been since 2007 when our company started. We have never used a student version.

I also have this problem and get this message very likely for the same reason as I have never used anything other than a paid for licence. (Autocad LT 2014/autocad LT for Mac 2018 & just upgraded to auto cad LT for Mac 2019)

I am guessing the rogue item has come via a shared file/drawing but have no idea how to eliminate/identify it. Any advice in words of one syllable would be appreciated.

I think it very harsh that the innocent victims are punished by Autodesk rather than them dealing with it at source (although I understand why they are doing it)

With files saved as last in LT2014 it is possible, with files last saved in 2018 (win sure, mac hopefully) it is impossible.

"I am guessing the rogue item has come via a shared file/drawing but have no idea how to eliminate/identify it"

You can only identify FILES, the flag is saved in the file, not on a object inside.

Identify files and if you found one, dont use is anymore (or just as XREF, then you will not see a edu stamp).

There is only me at my end and there most definitely was not a warning of any sort at any time. I am not that stupid.

I have assumed that I have, at some point, received a drawing (from other architects, structural engineers, surveyors) which is, perhaps, the source of the problem.

I simply wanted to know how to identify and eliminate it: obviously without trying to continue using it.

>>" and there most definitely was not a warning of any sort at any time."

As i wrote: It is possible when the file was saved at last with your 2014LT version (when the was SP1 installed),

it is not possible when you saved a file at last with your 2018 version.

>>"I simply wanted to know how to identify and eliminate it: "

x By opening a file you get a message (or not), that how YOU can identify such a file.

x Another way is to use (win) fullversion of cad and buy this search-tool: https://jtbworld.com/edufinder

x The third way is to use DWGCONVERT 2019 (use copies of your files, then use DWGCONVERT, the programm will alert you if one of the files have a EDU flag)

I'm pretty sure there was a warning. At the time it was easy to ignore because there was no apparent affect on the drawings because the plot stamp was not present.

I didn't say you were stupid. Smarter people than you (or I) have done worse.

@gillian48 wrote:

Actually, ignorance can be an acceptable defence so maybe ditch the platitudes

I'm sorry but ignorance is not an exception to the terms of the EULA. If you get audited, that will not fly. However, since you are trying to address the issue now that it is apparent, they will probably work with you if you contact them directly.

I'm not talking about the stamp. Wasn't there a warning in a pop-up or at the command line?

>>>...the rogue item has come via a shared file/drawing...<<<
Most likely scenario.

>>>...have no idea how to eliminate/identify it...<<<
Google Search is how you find out, you don't ask Autodesk or their forums how to break a feature they added deliberately 🙂

Good luck.
