Reversing the Windows Update has done the trick. My partner has also found a hack to disable future auto updates for now. Once I've finished this assessment, I will bravely install all Windows updates & bring AutoCAD up to date as well!

Thanks heaps

Elaine

AutoCAD 2018 unusable after Windows 10 update

AutoCAD starts up without the Start screen - if I open the app - or with a black screen in model space and nothing visible in paper space layouts. Hovering the mouse over the drop down box at the top of the Home screen shows me thumbnail contents of model space and paper space but nothing is visible on the main screen (no, it's not a zoom problem) and no commands will work.

I have an HP with 64-bit operating system, 16GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics card. Operating system is Windows 10 Home. Software is Autodesk AutoCAD 2018 version 22.0.49.0.

This flaky behaviour was first seen around 2 days ago, which coincided with a Windows 10 update that was done overnight. Yesterday, a few restarts fixed it. Today, not so. The symptoms most resemble "out of memory" behaviour of other graphics programs I have used.

I should explain that I am a beginner student with this software, however if anyone else has experienced this (I noticed a similar thread for AutoCAD 2017 and Windows 10) and can suggest what I should do that would be helpful. My current best guess is that a reinstall of AutoCAD 2018 could be an idea?

Thanks

Elaine

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Please check your Account page for updates. My version is O.154.0.0 AutoCAD 2018.1.1 (type ABOUT at the command line to compare).

I would then also suggest that you could try to rollback the last Windows updates you received or you could check to see if there are newer ones available.

I suggest that you also look for the most current graphics driver for your Nvidia graphics card.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.
