Installed AutoCAD 2019. Snap is ON. Snap to grid is ON. And NO snapping. I know this question's been asked a million times. But it's incredibly frustrating and I don't know why it doesn't want to cooperate.

The snap dimensions/increments are matching the grid measurements. Why does it refuse to work?

What's that? A command for the command line?

I put in both, still Snapmode does not work.

Also. How do i find/determine what my actual work space is? I figured I was too zoomed out or in to see what was going on. I really don't know what "5.0000" and "5.0000" means for my grid spacing. I assume it's whatever units I decided to use.

I really hate to double post, but I have to point out that I have turned legacy snap option to ON. It STILL does not work. This is just ridiculous.

Maybe you are zoomed too far out to see that it is working. Draw a line of any length at 0 degrees, then click on it and open properties. Do the endpoints show numbers that are exact multiples of 5? If so then snap is working.

With computers today there is no reason to set limits to drawing space as people did years ago. Just leave it unlimited. It is also wise to try and draw things near 0,0 as drawing them way out in space for no reason just makes autocad do more work and can sometimes cause rounding issues. By way out in space, I'm talking 100's of thousands of feet or millions of feet.

I agree, there doesn't need to be limits. However, there are times when large x and y values are necessary. For example, if you are drawing in a state plane coordinate system, then yes, the numbers are inherently large. Six and seven digits to the left of the decimal. Many Cad objects, such as points (monitoring wells, soil borings, fire hydrants, cell towers, etc.), or polygonal objects (electrical transformers, lakes, parcels, building footprints, etc.) are drawn in state plane then cut and pasted (using 0,0 as copy basepoint and 0,0 as paste point) to other Cad verticals. For many, being far away from the origin doesn't matter. Afterall, is just a number, not a heavily weighted xref or something requiring a sophisticated Cad operation. I like to 'trust' Cad and let it do the heavy work. I like doing the easy stuff, like clicking the mouse.

I really wish it were that easy. Yes, both Grid and Snap are highlighted Blue and enabled. I've already familiarized myself with the key shortcuts as well.

I've zoomed WAY in, and WAY out to see if there's a difference. It just won't work.

ugh... Ok. I've figured it out. There was a problem with a template file i've been using. Strange. It's a really old one. Possibly from an AutoCAD 2013 release. I think even older. My drawing was Metric and I believe I chose the Imperial version of the template file I was working with. I started fresh and everything is fine. I'm completely new to the software, so i'm ASSUMING this is what it was. I realized late that I had been given two .dwt's. It's for an assignment. Is that something that actually could be conflicting? Template files? I don't know, apparently so. All is well now.

Also... I've been trying to juggle around with trying different settings for Grid and Snap. Finding a right balance between the two so i can actually see the snap while NOT being zoomed in extremely close.
