Insert block not editable. Block editor problem?

Hello,

I have this file, which has a beam inside with grip points.

But if I insert this file in our toolpallette it is a block. And when I insert this block, i need to explode this beam to get to the grip points.

Normally this works if I open my drawing of the beam and autocad ask to open it in Block Editor. If autocad just opens this drawing and doesn't open it in block editor. I know this file will be a block when I insert it in a new drawing.

This i hard to explain.

I try to show with some pictures.

This is how the beam should look like after import with grip points.

This is how the beam looks after I import it from toolpallettes, it lost it grip points to extend the beam. However, if you explode the beam, the grippoints come available. But why can't it be with grip points from the start? :

Anyone has an idea how this can work?

It looks like a block inside of a block. You can set the Tool Palettes Properties for that block to Explode it when you insert it or redo the block.

Hi,

if you don't want to create a tool which create a block by insert a dwg 'as block',

open your well named and well placed file

drag and drop your block reference to the palette.

This is the right way, if you want to use this .dwg as library for multiple content (more than one block definition for example)

I do "drag/copy" the file from it's original path to the toolpallettes. So I think that is what you meant.

The weird thing is. All my other blocks work fine. But if I open a working drawing with a block I made. I get the next message:

I don't get this message with the non-working "prefab balk" dwg when I open it. It works now if i set explode properties to "yes". So for now it works.

Another small issue. How come this blue beam is in the bottom left corner of the image? It could be a little bit bigger and more centered. How do i fix this?

Is that how you saved the file, zoomed out far away from the content?

First time I made it, i saved it like that yes.

Afterwards I zoomed in on it, saved it again. The thumbnail didn't update. Also if I do "update image", it does not change.

I deleted the tool pallette block, moved the new saved dwg to the pallette, same old thumbnail shows up.

So I don't know now....

How about if you just Right-Click the image in the tool palette and choose "Update tool image".

Or Right-Click in the tool palette area and select "View Options....." and adjust the size.

Right,

but you don't want to create a block of the modelspace(filename=new blockname), you want to insert a block what is already defined inside this .dwg!

You have to drag&drop the blockreference from inside the .dwg to your palette!

From now, your .dwg is acting as a library for blocks (the one you draged).

Create a .dwg to insert as block..

then you can drag and drop this .dwg

How to:

Open your .dwg, start wblock command, option block, select your block and save a new dwg where you have your library folder for this stuff

Update tool image does not work.

Specify image is an option, but then I need to make my own image. I can't adjust the image. I don't see an option to adjust the image.

As @cadffm said, when using tool palettes, create a family of blocks in a single external drawing. insert a block reference for each block inside that drawing. Put it on a typical layer that you use and at a scale and rotation that you typically want. Save that drawing and then drag the block/s to the tool palette.

Then when editing the block (for use in multiple drawings, right click on the block tool and choose edit block. If you need to redefine the block in another drawing, right click the tool and choose redefine.

The explode on insert option is a reasonable workaround.

Ok. First job is going to make ONE single drawing (maybe 2 or 3 depending on the categories I need) with all the seperate drawings. In that ONE drawing I am going to make all blocks. If that is done, I can drag every seperate block into the toolpallete.

If that is all done, I will make a seperate topic with the next trouble I encounter.
