Hello everyone,

I am currently working on creating a layout of my model. However, when I click on Layout Tab > Create View panel > Base > From Model Space, it asks me to select a file from a location on my computer. I cannot select the model that I have in the Model tab. How do I select the model I have been working on?

I cannot save the Model as an Autodesk Inventor Files either, nor as any of the other file types to choose from. I simply want to use the model in my Model tab and create a front and a top view of it.

Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting to create a PAPERSPACE layout with a viewport looking into your modelspace content?
Or something else?

Your screenshot is about creating 3D VIEWs and the word "layout" is not a good term to use here.

I have content in the modelspace.

I am following instructions posted here. I am stuck in step 5. I click on "From Model Space" but AutoCAD asks me to select a file instead of asking me for a view location. I am using AutoCAD 2018. Instead of asking me to select a file, I want AutoCAD to use the content I have in my modelspace.

This is my second time using AutoCAD and I am not sure how to do what you're asking me to do. I created the 3D Model that I have in my modelspace in SketchUp, then imported it into AutoCAD as a .dwg file. In my modelspace, I can see the 3D object that I designed in SketchUp. What I do not know how to do is ask AutoCAD to take the top and front views of the object and paste them into Layout1. I want to create an engineering drawing of the object with dimensions on it.

Why don't you try to achieve what you want with the original drawing that posted for you, it's a 3d model and if it doesn't work show us why.

I do not have authorization to post a sample drawing, but I think you are right. My design is a collection of lines that form a 3D figure. I just want to take the top and front views of the 3D figure and paste them in the layout tab as 2D objects. I basically want to create an engineering drawing. This is extremely easy to do in Fusion 360 (File > New Drawing > From Design), but I do not understand why it is so complicated in AutoCAD.

Then go into a layout, create several viewports, make one active that will be your front view, pick the view controls for front, set the scale, not go to the one for top view, set it to top view, etc. For the iso view there are preset views for those as well.
