Can't attach DWF/DWFX in Autocad - Invalid file

Hi,

I have a DWF/DWFX file that i want to import into AutoCAD 2016 and then later convert to a .step file.

When using the command DWFATTACH command and choosing the file i get the following problem (See pictures below). Anyone have any ideas?

I can open the file and see the 3D-model in Autodesk Design Review 2013, but i cant export it to STEP in that software.

Can you share the file so I can take a peek at it? In the mean time, try printing it to PDF to see if that will let you attach to your host file.

Hi @fredrik.tallroth.91,

I was able to view the DWFx in DesignReview also but similarly I was unable to attach it to a DWG.

I tried a few third-party converters and they too ended up with empty files so this indicates to me that the file actually does have some corruption and is not likely workable in AutoCAD.

If you have specific views you could print those to PDF from DesignReview.

i've converted the DWF file into NWD and attached it in AutoCAD as coordination model and it worked with me.

But the NWD file size is 15MB!

I was going to try this step too last week but I did not have access to Navisworks.

I opened the DWFx in Navisworks Freedom and then did a simple Saveas to NWD format.

Just wondering, I did publish/Saveas the DWFx file in NW Simulate but the NWD file size is 15.1MB! are there any different settings between Simulate and Freedom?

Just to add this information about "Why does DWFATTACH not work with that file" ==> DWFATTACH can only handle 2D DWF files (created with _PLOT or _PUBLISH), not 3D ones (created with commands _EXPORT or _3DDWF).
