Hi !
I think i have a problem with my autocad 2018 !
I turned all my snap modes on (that's what I did in all older versions of AutoCAD and had no problem), now when I work on my files I have noticed that if i see the drawing close the lines are not set where I want to put them and where cursor says.
For example: I made some axes with offset 700 x 700 than I added the columns by using their geometric center as reference. When i make the walls, I notice that the columns are not in same direction and the distance between the two geometric centers of two columns isn't 700 but 694,5654.
In the image I've attached it was supposed that the lines were overwrited but when i se them close they arent...

sometimes having all of the Osnaps on causes problems in that it ends up snapping to something you didn't intend to.

one way to see if this is the problem is to turn off all snap using F3 and then holding SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK and selecting only the snap you want.

Hi,

>> I turned all my snap modes on .... <<

here is the problem !!! turning ON all osnaps will definitely make such a problem , it's NOT recommended to select them all as you did . in your case just select ( tick ) two or three modes Object Snap dialog and not more to avoid such a problem that you face now .

If u scroll very close u can see the problem at the part of the drawing on the red cicle.
I think that the main problem may be geometric center, because it's recognized in the wrong point...
the images explain the problem that Im thinking.

as an architect ... i suggest to control well your drawing to draw a center or grid lines ( Axis ) for your project, then from those grid lines start to put your columns and walls . in this way you won't find any problems . 🙂

The column centers aren't accurately placed. The white dimensions in the snip below are to a midpoint from corner to corner in a few of the columns. The red dimensions are snapped to geometric center. As you can see they match. If you must have a lot of OSNAPS on I recommend turning off NEAREST since it can cause the most inaccuracies.

Instead of doing polylines for your columns I would recommend a dynamic block or multiple blocks that have a point on a no plot layer at a center insertion point that can be snapped to. This may help eliminate some of the errors in accuracy.

Also, your columns aren't exactly horizontal/vertical so using PERP for your dimensions isn't accurately dimensioning the column. Below is a snip of the lines in one of the columns (exploded to get each line length).

There are more errors in your linework that are probably due to snapping such as the corner below. Accuracy is everything and selective use of OSNAPS can help with that.

Nancy

@Anonymous wrote:

I've done that with axes, but i deleted them....
I think that the problem is the geometric center because moved the columns by its geometric center on the intersection between two axes than i realised that the columns are not in same line (direction)....

You may have had different APERTURE setting in the past. You can try adjusting this as well, but generally its not good to work with them all on cause they tend to steal focus from each other and you can easily lose which snap is taking it when you are zoomed out of the geometry.

Hi

I am having the same trouble with snap accuracy.

Whatever I work with new drawing or developing an old one - the AUTOCAD snap fails.

It results with similar small mistakes like 10.0025 instead of 10.

Or doesn't catch exactly the point (for example a corner of rectangle) it just snaps a small distance away.

I worked long time with ACAD 2008 and never had such a nasty problem.

Later I switched to ACAD 2016 and the problem occurs making me a lot of dumb work.

Has anyone solved this issue.

But please don't make any shallow / stupid answers.

Just how to make the ACAD catches exactly the point and tracks exactly in given distance?

Which of the many tips supplied in this post have you tried? There are lots of suggestions so saying OSNAP doesn't work isn't helpful because we don't know what your settings are. Please give more information and post your drawing, a screenshot of your OSNAP settings and what icon is showing when you snap to the end of a line (Square, Triangle, X, etc.) so we may better assist you. Also, is it 2D or 3D work, is Elevation set to 0.0 for 2D work, and is UCS set to World?

I have been having the same issue with snaps not working properly and came across this thread. After reading this thread, I went into my mouse properties and under Pointer Options Tab there is a Motion box which has a Enhance pointer precision option. I unselected that option and it seems like my osnaps are working properly now. I run a wireless mouse.

As others have suggested... turn off some of the snaps you don't need all the time.
