Annotative Hatch Scale Issue

Hi,

I've got several drawings xrefd into a single drawing file.

Each drawing shares a hatch pattern for "native soil". The hatch settings are a hatch pattern scale of 10 and angle of 0 degrees.

Each xrefd drawing is a different size in dimension (ie. one might be 10' in length and another drawing may be 40' in length)

I've set the hatch patterns to be annotative in each of the xrefd drawings, and made sure the appropriate scale is reflecting the viewport scales that each one is represented in.

In layout/paperspace, I want all native soil hatch patterns to display at the same size.

My issue is that they are not all displaying at the same hatch pattern scale size when plotted, even though all of them have the same hatch pattern scale size. Larger-dimension drawings are showing the pattern teeny-tiny, while the smaller dimension drawings are showing the same hatch pattern in a much larger size.

When I set these hatch patterns to non-annotative, I can try to guesstimate the hatch scale values for each individual xrefd drawing so that when they are all viewported into paperspace, the hatch scale sizes look close, but not perfect.

The way you have the hatch scaled in the four VP's is fine. There's no good reason to make the hatch look identical when each VP is using a different scale.

Imagine yourself in a helicopter at an altitude of 2000 feet. When you look down at the city, the cars down below look like ants. When you descend to an altitude of 900 feet, the cars appear like they are toy cars. Descending further to 200 feet the cars now look like real cars.

Regardless of the helicopter's altitude, the cars are the same size, they are not actually growing bigger when the helicopter descends. It's merely your perception of size relative the 'view' of the city. At 2000 feet, you have a wide view and able to see 400 city blocks, at 900 feet you see 150 blocks, and at 200 you only see only 2 blocks.

You can apply this concept to your hatch. It is, as you say, teeny-tiny when zoomed out, and when zoomed in, the hatch pattern is spaced out. This is OK because it gives the reader the appropriate sense of scale relative to the 'view' in your viewport.

However, if you want to make your annotative hatch the same scale for all viewports (and I think it's a mistake to do so), you'll have to apply all four scales to the hatch. You can do this in the properties palette by clicking the hatch, going to the properties palette, then adding the scales.

Click gray rectangle in properties palette, then Add button to add all VP scales.

Image above shows annotative hatch EARTH has four scales. The scales correspond to each VPs in the layout.

You'll also need to make sure the hatch is 'visible' in all VPs and that the hatch 'reacts' to each VP scale. Click on (make blue) the scale icon with the circle and the scale icon with the lighting bolt prior to adding the VP scales.

Red circle=show anno objects. Yellow square=add anno objects. Repeat for each VP.
