why do me splines change to arcs after some time?

I don't understand the nature of your problem. Are you using any commands that could be doing this or do they just change over time?

Also are there any Z values on your drawing? This can cause the reverse of this behavior.

I believe it happened because I flattened the splines

That's what happens with that action: FLATTEN command converts SPLINE to PLINES ARCs.

is there any way of converting it back to splines, without remaking the splines from scratch? the file had been already saved and closed before I noticed this error

Yes, you can PEDIT them and choose the Spline Option (not sure about the Uppercase Letter in English but you will find or click 😎)

Oups...and then, SPLINEDIT to turn it to a spline...

Let me do it again :

PEDIT and then Spline option.

Then SPLINEDIT. This command can only transform a "splined" polyline to a real "spline"

To turn a POLYLINE back into a SPLINE, use the attached PL2SP (Polyline to Spline).LSP

Make sure to use the PEDIT (FIT) option or it will not work. (Credit)

Note that using PEDIT (Spline option) will only turn it into a 2D Polyline.
