I think you talk about Zoom extents and your Zoom don't jumps out of control, it jumps to the extents of your used modelspace.

Solution: Keep your modelspace clean!
Upload a sample.dwg if you are not sure.
If i guessing wrong, just start a Zoom extents and all is right.

Hey,
I think if you intend to use the zoom command, zoom window will do precisely that.

Have you tried using the view manager? That will always zoom to the exact area you intend.

@Anonymous wrote:

I do not want to zoom so much so I get outside of the frame in the pic! ...

Maybe something like ZOOMLIMIT???....

Set the drawing Limits to the area you want [no need to draw an object such as a rectangle], then to Zoom to that area, regardless of the Extents of drawn content or how far in or out you may be Zoomed at the time, use a macro like this:

'ZOOM (getvar 'limmin) (getvar 'limmax)

or an AutoLisp expression like this:

(command "_.'zoom" (getvar 'limmin) (getvar 'limmax))

I have the latter defined into a command name -- ZL -- which I use frequently.

If you put those into Tool Palette buttons or assign them to keystrokes, you can even use them in mid-command while drawing things.

A lot of people remark that "no one uses Limits any more" or don't think there's any reason for their existence. It may well be that nearly no one uses Limits checking any more, but that's not the only thing they're for. This is a perfect use for them.

[The drawback to that is that if your view is entirely inside that rectangle, you can't select it. Or if there's some far-outlying thing that makes Zoom Extents (double-click the mouse-wheel, even accidentally) go way the blazes out, you may not be able to distinguish the rectangle from other things, to select it.]

If there is nothing outside of your drawn rectangle in your screenshot, AutoCAD will not go beyond that with Zoom Extents and Zoom All command functions.

But I wonder if you just need to set ZOOMFACTOR to a lower number than the default to solve your zoom-too-far problem: try a setting of 10, 20 or at most 30 and see if that solves it.

Those are viable within a drawing/editing session, but of course the variables will be lost when the drawing is closed, so you would need to establish them again the next time you open the drawing. The Limits, on the other hand, are retained.
