A gumby way of re-assigning keys (requires an added Right Click)

For most things, like an apostrophe on the computer’s numeric keypad, CUI macro added to the Command shortcut menu:

Command name + Apostrophe

Macro ‘^Z

Then to draw a 4’ line using only the keypad:

4, Right Click, +

+ still works as + outside of the Command shortcut menu.

Escape seems to require more…it seems to need a following command? On either (or both) Command and Edit shortcut menus:

Command name + Escape

Macro            ^C^C^C_LINE;;;

Then to Escape:

Right Click, +

+, or K or whatever key assigned still works as usual outside of the Contextual menu, but this will work better if one chooses a leading key that is not already used in the Contextual menu. Numbers and symbols are pretty safe bets…

I am looking to assign the escape key to another key on the keyboard. I am left handed so I use the mouse with my left hand and the keyboard with my right hand. I typically keep my right hand in the typing position (with my right index finger on the "J" key) so I have easy access to keys like "M" "Delete" and "L" which correspond with the move, delete, and line function respectfully. I would like to reassign the "K" key on the keyboard to the escape function to maximize functionality.

Yes, it is possible by programming, but do you really never need the "K"?

Textvalues with "K", impossible? Commands with "K", impossible?

And not only for Acad, it is possible too by third party programs like Patchkeyboard and a others,

as left handed you should also know about solution like that: https://www.amazon.com/DSI-Left-Handed-Keyboard-Black-KB-DS-8861XPU-B-V2/dp/B0009S52X8

PS: If you don't like to work very quick, every command-contectmenu have the option to cancel and a long right-click (without moving the mouse) de-select your current object selection.

And you can use a Mouse Button for Esc too, If that's an alternative for you

You never want to assign a letter you will type for text to a code in AutoCAD: it removes that letter from your alphabet when typing. Use an F-key is the better approach: everyone has to type some words some time.

Consider assigning one of your mouse buttons to the task in your mouse driver as another option.
