Annotative dimensions have same properties but shows different

Dear all,

I've got a drawing in which use only one annotative dimension style. The thing is there are some dimension appear differently from the rest but still have the same properties.

I simply solve this problem by 2 solution:

1- Match properties

2- Use COPY command (not clipboard) or MOVE command to another location, then those dimensions are back to normal.

(Please see section H1 and detail j1 in the attached drawing for more detail)

Could you please explain this issue? Many thanks!!

Please look to the screenshot, that's what I see and I can't see any difference (visual difference).

I'm sorry for didn't make the question clearly, I wanna figure out what make the difference between the two dimensions (see attached image above), the dimension with bigger text is correct.

Hi,

I also can't see a difference (besides of the text position).

However you can use the dim-update button to reassign the dimstyle (or command _-DIMSTYLE and option _APPLY) and select all your existing dimensions as they seem to be all created with the same style, so they get updated.

Hi,

Very curious behavior of these Rotated Dimensions (why not simple linear dimension with aligned text?). I first noticed the Fit condition for "172" vs "177" in "H1" vs "j1" and I was going to point out the text size driving the placement. No big deal for that condition.

I then noticed the dimension text size across the vertical dimensions to the right of the first and I see what you mean.

I used properties to see if there are any varying settings between the one shown properly and the one's shown too small but all of the settings appear the same except for the Precision under the Primary Units section in Properties.

I looked at your list of Dimension Styles and I notice something that I always caution students about... Overrides. You can observe the differences in the Overrides by selecting Compare in the Dimension Style Manager (I didn't see any size or precision differences). I make your "NC-DIMENSION" style current and the overrides go away (as is normal). This does not correct your problem but it is a condition that I avoid. I usually prefer to Modify my dimension styles if changes are needed or create new styles as required. Overrides can get messy and you may have used Overrides multiple times while detailing your drawing.

I strongly suspect Overrides may have led to your appearance problem.

To correct your appearance problem en masse I would simply recommend dumping the overrides and using Update on the Dimensions panel, toolbar, or menu. Update will prompt you to select objects and you can type All or you can use a window around the entire H1 or j1 view. This made all appearances look proper but not sure if this makes any undesired changes.

I did notice that some of the values pick up a decimal to their measurement which is not shown when they appear small. If you want a precision with no decimal places you should Modify the dimension style, not override. If you want to remove decimals precision for only certain views or details then I'd recommend just creating a new dimension style off of the first with only the precision setting different. You can then window around an entire view and select the new dimension style to apply to all dims in your selection.

Hope all this isn't too confusing? It took me a bit to sort this one out;)

Firstly, from AutoCad 2015, vertical or horizontal object created by "dim" command will be classified as "rotated dimension" in properties panel, so I think I use "nothing special dimension".

I realized that this style has been overridden and I didn't notice when and how it is created (I never get messy with dimension override before, this is the first time). But you think that overriding cause this problem??

There are plenty ways to get rid of this issue (simply move it away and move back, for example), I just wonder why.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure that overrides caused your issues but I think there may have been more than one occurrence when overrides were used. I can only see the ones that exist now but since I saw the Precision setting different in Properties, that makes me believe override was used for that on an earlier edit.

Hope that I have helped you identify where this problem may have came from. I recognize that you already had a way to correct but also wanted to let you know to get rid of overrides and update everything at once to get things looking well without having to work on each one individually.

You have an issue with your dim text heights and it can be easily fixed. You are using annotative dims and some of them are consistent with the 'current drawing scale' and some are not. The dims where the text is too small appear to be holding the previous drawing scale of 1:1 whereas your current drawing scale is 1-30. This suggests that some of the dims were created when the drawing scale was 1:1 while other dims were created when the drawing scale was changed to 1-30, hence both small and large text heights. I tried to apply the 1-30 scale to dims that were too small but couldn't get them added. To fix your dims all at once, simply go back to 1:1 then return to 1-30. You may do this:

1-Activate (make blue) the 'add scales to anno objects' icon then 2-change your drawing scale back to 1:1.

1-Activate 'add scales' icon. 2-Select 1:1 from list.

All your dim text will appear small while in 1:1. With add scales still activated, return the drawing scale back to 1-30 and your text heights will all go large. At this point your dims will have two scales, 1:1 and 1-30. If you only need the 1-30, then you can delete 1:1. Perform a Select All on your dims then delete 1:1 from the Object Scale List.

3-Open 'Anno Object Scale window. 4-Delete 1:1.

Agree that the small one seems to appear in 1-1 scale, but as you can see on my original uploaded file at #1, all of these dimensions hold only 1-30 scale only, and do you think moving and copying object can have effect on annotative scale??
