topic How do I select only a line and not the objects around it? in AutoCAD Forum

In this picture I have drawn lines around the windshield frame. I want to select them so I can make a surface to make a windshield.

However, I cannot select them as autoCAD will only select the larger objects around them. No matter how much I zoom in I cannot get the precision to select only the lines and not the surrounding objects.

Help?

Hi,

Create a new layer for 2D stuff or test work.

Select the objects you wish and don't worry about whatever else selects.

Once selected you can right click and choose Properties.

In Properties you can narrow your choice in the top list to Lines or Polylines.

Now you can place your lines on your new layer in Properties.

Make that layer current, turn off the other layers, and work with your lines.

Hope that helps.

When you pick in a place where there are multiple objects to choose from, do you not get a box like this?

If not, read about the SELECTIONCYCLING System Variable, and set it as you desire. You can pick the one among the multiple objects that you want, either in pre-selection or within a command asking for object selection.

Hello @Jesseaboyd,

A simple way is to use FILTER, you can select the entity type than need, in this case like this:

1. Search in the list polyline.
2. Add to list
3. Apply, then you will leave the box and you must select or cover the area for the entity to take, as we only look for the polyline, it does not matter if you cover more than the account.

The polyline should be selected and, with it selected, you go to ISOLATE (4) in the lower right part of the screen to isolate it and make the surface you need, when you finish with it and you finish the isolate (5) so that everything returns again.

Success!!

SelectionCycling is a good tool to know about.

But, you can also turn your view to 2D Wireframe and it will allow you to select lines. For some reason, when shaded, AutoCAD tends to select solid objects before the simpler objects.
