That solved it. Why would it put a hatch on a different layer? When I tried to hatch the polyline, I was working on the current layer, not the layer that the hatch appeared in. What would cause that?

I've been working on a project, and strangely, the hatch command seems to have stopped working. I've tried repairing the program in Windows 10, I've tried to run the FILL:ON command, but nothing so far gets it working.

To Hatch a closed polyline (yes, it is closed, I checked), I type "HATCH", then select the closed polyline, make sure the hatch pattern is what I want (grey, solid, opaque - 0 transparency), then press enter. This worked as it should, then suddenly it stopped working. I haven't found anything yet in the Forum that solves the problem.

It's probably something obvious I'm missing, since I'm relatively new at this, but why would it just stop when it was working before?

Thanks for your help.

Tafirkhoo

Can you share the drawing where this is happening or is it happening in all drawings? I am happy to look at his with you.Which version of AutoCAD are you using? Is that hatch being placed on a frozen layer?

Hi,

>> This worked as it should, then suddenly it stopped working

Just a guess, change the value of HPMAXLINES to a much higher value (e.g. 10000000) ... does it work then?

Always good to test: start command _AUDIT and see if AutoCAD needed to repair something in the dwg-file.

Thanks for your response. The drawing consists of planimetric features traced over a raster layer of geotiff tiles, which makes for a very large project. I suppose I could share the drawing with you without the tiles, so you'll just get the planimetric layers.

I'm using AutoCAD 2019, along with Map 3D for some of the mapping tasks.

The layer is not frozen; it's actually the active layer.

What's also strange is that I can select a hatch done before on the same layer, and everything seems to work - I can change the color, or change it from solid to pattern, etc. But I don't seem to be able to add a new hatch to a new closed polyline.

you have turned off a lot of layers, any chance if your turn on these layers you find your hatches?

Thanks for your help. I increased HPMAXLINES from 100,000 to 1,000,000, but it didn't get the project to hatch.

Thanks. The command HPLAYER helped me solve the problem. Somehow, one of my layers had be designated as the default hatch layer. I don't recall doing this myself, but may have accidentally done it somehow. By typing the value "." (that is, simply a period) in the HPLAYER command, the hatch program uses whatever current layer you have designated for the hatch, instead of some other specific layer designated by the HPLAYER command. Thanks for your help.
