I am unable to start a new plot style or copy existing style in the plot styles editor dialog box. Outside of Acad I made a copy of acad.stb called acad2.stb, in it is Normal which I can't do a thing with, everything is disabled, pulldowns etc, the second on the list was called style1, I can rename, edit all the properties, save, works perfect but I cannot add a 3rd style, is 2 the limit? I hope I don't need another .stb file for each plot style, I don't think that's the case because I see hints about sorting styles, I don't need to sort 2 styles, one of which is stuck and useless. I can select style1, right click, copy is the only think not dimmed, then I can't paste it anywhere, copy remains the only undimmed option on the right click menu. What kind of sorcery is required to do this magical unobtainable task? Thanks much!

There is no limit (not for count 2). The question is WHY?

It sounds like that stb has the R14 color mapping table, so I would make a copy of the acad.stb, then edit it, go to the General tab, down near the bottom left is a Delete R14 color mapping table, click on that, answer yes, and now you can add styles.

Thats really sounds like that, perfect catch. (so it wasn't the original standard acad.stb)

That was it! I just wish there was some kind of alert or a simple note in the dialog box saying that when you try to add a style when you can't. I saw the warning when I clicked on the color mapping table button but was worried about messing something up, I applied it to another copy of my acad2.stb file, all is well now.

Thanks much,

This only works after you have already deleted the r14 color mapping table, that's the part I did not know, Thanks though.

The question WAS "WHY you can not do these steps"

And the answer is that you not talked about the standard (copied) acad.stb file.

You handled with a customized stb plotstyletable with style translation information,

the solution was remove this data from plotstyletable.

It's solved and "why" is no longer a question.
