Hi Dean,

The issue with the dock is unrelated, and also being tackled, as this behavior is also exhibited when the monitor is connected via the mini-display port on the side of the laptop (and it not in the dock).

Running with the laptop shut is not an option, as the second screen is a useful and valuable working space, and it should work in this configuration.

Edit: yes, Autocad is running on the quadro GPU, hardware acceleration currently is on, turning it off makes no difference.

Hi all,

I have an irritating development:

When running with autocad on the 'not primary' monitor, any grip menu will disappear as soon as the mouse is moved away from the primary control area.

If I switch the monitor assignments so that the autocad window is on the 'primary' monitor, then it behaves fine and as expected.

This is not optimal, as the primary monitor needs to be the laptop screen, whereas when at my desk I prefer to use Autocad on the bigger, external monitor.

Supporting information:

Autocad Version 2019.1

Laptop: Dell Precision 7710

Display adapters: HD graphics 530 and Nvidio Quadro M3000M

Driver Version: Intel 23.20.16.4973

                           Nvidia 23.21.13.8909

Any thoughts on how this can be fixed?

G

Is it possible to show me this behavior in a Screencast? I have tried to duplicate this on my computer but I want to make sure I understand your problem accurately. So far, I see no difference in behavior from my laptop display to my external one.

Are you running the monitor from your laptop direct (and have your laptop screen open and active), or did you invest in and use a docking station for your laptop (and allows you to close your laptop lid/screen)?

Hi Dean,

The monitor is connected via displayport to a port-replicator docking station. I keep the laptop screen open as a secondary monitor for things like email, web etc.

There are issues with this setup, but I'm not sure its related: Crashes/freezing on boot up when on the dock with the monitor powered up - it feels like for some reason the bootup/log on sequence cannot cope with the extra processing load through the dock. I reckon this is a hardware issue so not really for this forum post.

I will attempt to record a screencast later today, though to be honest I've never done one before, and I've not idea how it will behave when I start adjusting settings - but I will do my best.

Sounds like you have way bigger problems with that dock that you should probably fix as soon as possible, then I suggest you pick up second monitor to use and get in the habit of closing your laptop while in use.

Is AutocAD using your Quadro? Find out, open GRAPHICSCONFIG command and see.

I apologize for not coming back sooner. Can you apply the 2019.1.2 update to see if it improves this behavior?

I see that there was something similar to this with Civil 3D but I have not found any other customer cases with this problem happening with core AutoCAD.

If the behavior changes when docking/not docking or with different connections, this is likely a system issue.

I am having the same issue. I just installed 2019 on a new beefed up Dell running multiple monitors with my CAD monitor being a 27" and the others 23". The CAD monitor is my second monitor.

When I try to edit a grip and the pop up appears, as soon as I move off the grip to the pop-up options it goes away.

I have the current update installed 2019.1.2.

A workaround is to set the screen you have you autocad window on as your 'main display' in the windows display settings dialogue box. It's not ideal, but it does change the behavior back to something predictable.

If this is not achievable for other reasons then you can navigate the right-click menus using the cursor keys rather than mouse motions - though obviously you need to keep the mouse still when doing this.

I don't want my ACAD display as my main display so I will need to deal with the workarounds. I know that you can type in S, A or R to achieve the function as well as the cursor keys.

Just disappointing that it is now a glitch in 2019 after working for how many versions.

Thanks,
Dan
