Text changes to Arial for certain letters

I am using AutoCAD2016. My mtext changes certain letters in a string to Arial which I want to see all in Romans. When I try to edit the mtext string and change it all to Romans, it does not change. When I even try to plot the file the Arials letters don't plot. In AutoCAD2015 which I also have. I open the same file shows the string in all Romans which I want to see. Please I need help.. The whole project is like this (all 12 sheets).

Can you post a file with this text in it? Even just a blank file with only the text & everything else deleted.

Are they random characters or are they special characters (maybe they're not available in that font)

I am not sure if the DWG will show what I am talking about. I did attach 2 JPG to give you a better idea.

I think you just had some formatting overrides inside the Mtext...

In your drawing, double clicked on the mtext to enable text editing, highlighted the text, "Remove character formatting", it changed back to Romans. I then added your underline back in.

Does this updated file display correctly on your end?

No, it didn't work. I followed your directions and still the same. I also opened the file you sent back and still shows multiple text.

That's odd, it displays fine my end. (AutoCAD 2017). AUDIT on the file doesn't show any errors. You have some proxy objects in there from Civil 3D mainly but that shouldn't affect the text objects.

Maybe @john.vellek can help analyse your file?

He should get a notification that I've tagged him. I think he's based in the US so he may not be at work yet depending on time zones.

Hi,

could it be that you have SHX files used which don't exist on your system?
So ARIAL is displayed because it's set to be the replacement font?

When I open your file, SHX files are missing on my system, like "MassDOT_v2007_r2.shx" or "PL.shx", and maybe more. I would first try to install all SHX needed for that file and then play with your text issues.

I do show the missing SHX files on my system and I assuming I have them all.

Should that be "it does show missing SHX files"? So when you open that drawing file you get the message with missing files?

This does not necessarily mean that AutoCAD finds them ... 😉

You can try that lisp statement (do that for your missing SHX filename) to verify if AutoCAD finds these fonts:

(findfile "pl.shx")

HI @falconbird,

I selected the Key Plan label as a means to test this issue. When I look at the Properties panel>Content, I do see Arial overrides.

I don't think a font is getting substituted.

At the command line you can check to see which font would be used however. Type FONTALT and it will show you either a . (period) for none or another font for an assigned alternate font.

To clear the formatting overrides, select all the text within the Mtext object, rt-click and select Remove Formatting>Remove all Formatting.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Did type the (filefind "xxxxxx.shx") and it does indicate the SHX files you mentioned early.

Typed fontalt and "simples.shx" shows.

Did REMOVE FORMATTING>REMOVE ALL FORMATTING. The mtext string still shows a mix of Arail and Romans.

If you select that field in Properties as I showed, can you manually remove the Arial properties?

Also, If you open the line of text in the Mtext editor, select all the text and then apply a text style does that work?

It also is what I would like to say.

I also use 2016 version and I don't think it is too difficult to fix this issue.

To remove the Arial.ttf override, you may carefully follow the steps below:

1. double-click the text to open "Text Formatting" dialog;

2. select all texts in the dialog window;

3. right-click then select "Remove Formatting" => "Remove Characters Formatting".

Note: There is no "BOLD" option available for romans.shx, and most shx fonts that I have seen.

Interesting that this only happens in AutoCAD2016. I also have AutoCAD2015 and don't see the same problem with the same file. Don't know why? Maybe if I start using AutoCAD2015 again it might rear its ugly head.

Also I didn't know that the BOLD does not apply to all the SHX fonts unless it's a TrueType (TT) which then you can change the font style (bold, italic, and regular). It's good to know that. NOW!
