Blocks not updated in drawing

I inserted a newly built block that I just recently constructed/built (in block editor) in a separate Autocad drawing named "Blocks". I copied and pasted into a drawing that I am working and realized that the block needed a modification quick. I went back into the "Blocks" drawing and modified it. I then copied THAT newly modified block into my current project, but the block is still showing up as the "old, not modified" block. It is not updating and showing the new changes. Why?

Hi,

you didn't copied a block (blockdefinition), you copied a blockreference!

If you like to update your already present blockdefinition, use Designcenter

Navigate to the source file, search for your block in questions, right-click ->

you need to purge out the old definition of the block before you can insert the newer version .

Copy/Paste has no replace-an-old-block-with-my-new-block-definition option, wrong tool for the task, it does not and did not prompt you to replace anything I assume, correct?

You want to use tools that let you replace one old with one new that share the same exact name: looks like you have many already shared, give those a try.

I have tried to select all and "purge all checked items" and it appears that nothing is fixed. The new blocks still do not show the modifications.

You didn't purged the block.

Purge is available for unused item only.

If the blockname is present and being used in the file, that will not get rid of it: start RENAME command, give the block in the destination file a prefix or suffix so it is indeed different, then insert your newly minted block from the source file into that same destination file.

Where does the default block destination file go on your pc? I cannot find where it is being placed after I save the new block.

You can save a FILE, not a block..

What I understood:

You have one file "blocks.dwg", where you created a block, say "Block1" (and saved this file).

You copied one blockreference of block1 and pasted into another drawingX.

By this step, you also copied the block(definition) of block1, because in drawingX was no block with name block1 defined.

Later, you edited block1 in blocks.dwg

Now, you want to update/redefine this block1 in drawing1.

Is it wrong?

Or did you used bedit in blocks.dwg and used <current drawing>?

If so, it isn't a block, but you can Insert this file 'as block'.

The solution is also Designcenter, Blocks palette (or classicinsert)

but in this case you have to do the right click on this file.

Or in classicinsert, [browse] for it.

This is correct!! How do I do this? I have tried everything and yet block1 still does not show the new changes made when I reopen it in drawing1.

We don't have you both drawings (you didn't shared) and we can't see your monitors
