how to remove extrude

I extruded some lines and shapes but now i want to bring some of them back to 2d, as they were before the extrusion. just hit delete and they are back right? but is there also unextrude column?

and when i deleted the 3d shapes they became back to 2 d but for circles, it erased all of the circle even the 2d version of the circle why is that? just the circle

Did you extrude the circle to a surface or a solid? Check the circle extrusion in the Properties palette and see if it says Surface or 3D Solid. If you explode the solid it will change to a surface. You can then delete the surface and have just the circle.

The Convert to Surface command won't bring back the original geometry. You have to explode the resulting surface to get the original geometry.

thanks i did it. by the way after exploding the solid to surfaces and deleting top of cylinder, and side of cylinder, still at the bottom a circle plus its inner area remained togetehr as one as a surface, so i had to do one more explode, to separate inner area from the circle itself, and only then i was able to delete the inner area and i obtained my original circle back

An additional tipp for the future:

I'd suggest to set DELOBJ to 0. So the "source" objects will not be consumed (not deleted) by the 3D feature. This way you can delete an extrusion (or other features) without losing their source (which I'd draw at one (ore more) separate layer(s)).

so you mean by default the original objects are consumed when you extrude, if you don't set DELOBJ to 0? I observed otherwise, meaning, the original objects are not consumed... or am i mistaken?

Here is the information on the different options for DELOBJ from the Express Tools, Tools panel, System Variables command (_.sysvdlg). You can find the same info from Help.

@neaton,following the same procedure I tried it with this profile and can't get a result, please help me through this.

You can see the extruded up profile I want to remove this and get the original 2d draft back.

I think, your SURFACEASSOCIATIVITY is set to 1. That means, if you later modify the source, the Extruded surfaces will follow these changes. Therefore the source will not be deleted, even if DELOBJ is not 0.

(BTW: For 3DSolids is such an associativity unfortunately not possible, only for Surfaces.)
