Hi,

>> If I hide some objects

How do you hide objects?

I guess you are not referring to command _HIDE?

>> What else might hiding some objects have effect on?

Freezing the layer for objects you don't want to see is the option to be best for REGEN performance issues.

If I hide some objects, would they be excluded from regen calculations so things would be faster?

And all hidden objects can be brought back anytime with that little button for object isolation at the very bottom right correct?

Hi,

well, from my feeling freezing layers is the best for performance.

I tried now to create a mass of polygons with each having a large number of segments, then isolated one of these 10000 objects, REGEN was as fast as if the other ones would be frozen.

But I have not found any official documentation stating anything about the comparison between isolating and freezing layers.

and how about turning layers off, vs freezing layers? - from your experience I mean... which is better for performance?

thanks a lot

AutoCAD must calculate (just) all objects on thawed layers, so it is clear what the answer is.

Hi,

>> how about turning layers off, vs freezing layers?

Draw a line on a layer that is frozen, and then on a layer that is off ... now press <CTRL><A> and then <DEL>.

Now thaw and turn on these both layers and see what happened with the 2 lines. 😉

... that should make it clear as objects on OFF-layers are selectable the performance with frozen layers is better then with objects on layers in OFF state.

Thanks... so freeze is definitely better ok.... so turning off is just a visual aid then....

But just I didn't understand the thing you said :

"Draw a line on a layer that is frozen, and then on a layer that is off"

How can I draw on a frozen or off layer in the first place? I didn't understand what you meant there as I couldn't even do it.

Hi,

sorry, I was too short in my description ... I meant draw 2 lines on two different layers, then freeze one layer and turn off the other layer. 😉

After that check the selection with <CTRL><A>
