Could have been a Windows update that caused it. Since this is such an old version of AutoCAD no updates are available. Have you tried signing into Windows as a different user to see if the problem occurs then?

In the middle of a command autocad suddenly locks up, a white screen appears. All other computer functions are running fine, I can check my mail, look up excel spread sheets, write in teams chats, etc. the only thing is a big white screen where Autocad should be.

When I check the task manager it looks like autoCAD all other functions are running in the back ground, but Autocad it self is "not responding".

Have left it to run hoping it would come back. It nevers comes back. and I loose all work after the last save, no recovery possible as it was not a crashed file.

It appears that the freezing is during some function in the background. I can't pinpoint what function.

I loose work every time. it happens four of five times a day.

running 2005 autocad vanilla.

Thanks for the suggestions, I can try re-installing.

As this happened with AutoCAD version 2024 before and now since this March with version 2025, I am guessing the current windows version is not the culprit.

Could our corporate move to send all save files and drives to OneDrive be at fault? Does Autocad deal with all their information saving to One Drive OK?

One Drive unlike a typical windows network has no file locking mechanism. This then could open up to problems when you may have a user open a drawing and another user open up the same drawing locally on each of their computers and upon a save and synch will overwrite each others work. So I would avoid using this method to share drawing files. Autodesk Docs is what you should consider when looking at placing drawings in the cloud for various members on the team to work on.

I have gone from 2024 to 2025 plain vanilla AutoCAD and I have been experiencing this issue sporadically since the change.

In the process of updating, all my 2024 AutoDESK product was removed from my system and the drive was scanned and cleaned prior to installing 2025 fresh from scratch.

My most current project, working in 3D only, I have a model that is 800 plus megabytes in size, this file ran fine in the previous 2023 version. Most of my whiteouts were while using the BEdit command, but as of today, (02/27/25,) started happening in editing in model space.

Checking the task manager during the whiteout has provided the attachment below.

Can we get a full program window screenshot of that?

2023 worked fine, but you changed from 2024 to 2025?

Any chance you just need to tone down the graphics beating up on your system in AutoCAD2025 by

1) installing the 2025.1.1 Update. Confirm with ABOUT command.

2) Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero): a restart of your AutoCAD/LT is required for it to take effect.

3) Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables: if still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

4) If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort.

Okay once again, in the BEDIT command. AutoCAD crashes to the desktop, only this time I actually got some crash data.

I will try to drag and drop the results in this reply.

Also, I want to note that when the dialog box comes up with the AutoCAD Error message, I don't have a button that tells me to send the report to AutoDESK. I can fill in the details of the error, but I can't send the report to AutoDESK. The only functioning object in the dialog box besides the text box for descriptive information is the X at the upper right corner of the dialog box. How do users now send their error messages to AutoDESK in version 2025 1.1 V.154.0.0
