Hello,

I usally use these steps belo, but today Paint isn't taking my image and I am out of solutions...

Save image file itself (tiff/jpeg/bmp etc) somewhere on your network or local hard drive as normal.

Open the Image file itself in an editing programme such as Windows ‘Paint’ that comes as part of windows operating system by default.

Once image file is open in Paint > on your keyboard ‘Ctrl + A’ together (shortcut to Select All) > then press ‘Ctrl + C’(shortcut for Copy to Clipboard)

Open your Autocad file that image needs to go into

In command line type PASTESPEC > press ENTER

A dialog box will pop up > select ‘Paintbrush Picture’ > click OK

Click anywhere in your drawing to place the image file. Once placed you can then re-position and scale image etc within Autocad as you normally would but the difference now is that the image file is not ‘attached’ to the drawing, it ispermanently part of the drawing no matter who you send it to and it will always display when they open the DWG.

Embedding Images with Raster

I am using AutoCAD 2019 with Raster Design 2019. Many of the drawings produced in the past have had attached photo (JPEG) files. Many more have TIFF overlays. Embedding the TIFF overlays in order to remove the actual TIFF files from the server has worked without a flaw. Unfortunately, this cannot be said for the photo (JPEG) files. When attempting to embed the JPEG files Raster Design 2019 excludes them. Only DWG files are going to be transferred to a new system and we would prefer not to lose the photo files attached to the drawings. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?

No, bi tonal are not embedded either. I wasteed too much time embedding them only to learn it is not working in Raster design 2019. It creates a temp image file not found later. Anyone else has a solution?

Are you sure you are using the EMBED command and not the CAPTURE command. The results you are getting sounds like it might be CAPTURE. I tried that and got the results that you describe. I've had no problems with the EMBED command. It's works very well with bi-tonal images. I still need a way to lock full color photos into the drawing so they won't get misplaced and I only need to store one file.

Hi,

Thanks for the help, I am able to open my jpeg with other viewers as you suggested (paint.net and paint 3D), but sadly back into Autocad when I enter the pastespec commande, it does not pick up my image form other viewers other than good old windows paint. Is there something I'm missing. Thanks
