Clipped Xref does not update

I have clipped xrefs plans inserted into a drawing.

When i revise the original xref and save the changes and go back to the drawing with the clipped xref, the changes do not update on the clipped xref. Is there a system variable for clipped xrefs that has to be set/changed?

Right-Click the XREF ICON at the bottom right of your Autocad window (shown in yellow), and click on RELOAD DWG XREFS(shown in red)

hello, or you can go to the command prompt type ER> right click your attached xref's > reload. thanks

Thanks, but it appears that's not the problem. I tried manual reloading and discovered the xrefs had been turned into resident blocks in the drawing, so it is 'user error' rather than a software problem. I just need to keep an eye out for how that happened.
