Duplicate definition of block ... ignored.

dear sir/madam,

when i insert a block with the same name i get this in the command bar:

"Duplicate definition of block GH ignored."

is there a way to get the related dialog box as prompt?

Try using RENAME Command to rename the block before pasting it in to the drawing.

thank you for the answer. but the problem is i want to keep the blocks with their same names and there must be a dialog box asking me if i'd like to redefine the blocks with the same name. that dialog box is missing.

In that case Rename first and then use BLOCKREPLACE

thank you. that is an alternative way, true. but i'd like to learn how to get the prompt asking me if i'd like to redefine the block or not.

Hi,

1. First you PURGE your drawings then past block.

2. If you want to redefine (overwrite) the existing definition of a block in your drawing, use the -INSERT click here

As far as I know, Currently there is no option as such in Autocad t the time being.

hi,

thanks for the answer but it didn't work. i attached related files seperately (drawing7.dwg and drawing8.dwg).

i named the block as "Force". in drawing 7 and in drawing 8 the block names are same and "Force". i want to drag into drawing7 the block from drawing 8. but once i do this, the block is not changing but repeating itself.

Ok This is it 🙂 (I Hope So)

Solution:

Open Drawing 8
Type WBLOCK
In the WBLOCK Pop-up Select BLOCK for Source(top of the window)
Select FORCE from Drop-down
now give the output filename as FORCE.dwg and WBLOCK it.
Open Drawing 7
type INSERT
browse to FORCE.dwg
Click OK
Select REDIFINE

Tell me that it Worked, Please 😉

Use the AutoCAD Design Center [the ADC command, or just Ctrl+2] to bring it in. Navigate to Drawing8, and pick the Blocks category. Right-click on the Force Block thumbnail image, and you will be given the choice whether to put one into in Drawing7 using the current definition of it in Drawing7 [the "Insert Block..." option], or to change that definition to match that in Drawing8 and put another one in [the "Insert and Redefine" option], or just to change the definition to match that in Drawing8 without putting another one in [the "Redefine only" option].

The O/P has a valid question that is being ignored here. Any block that is inserted should provide a prompt for replacing, and he is pointing out that he is not getting that prompt. The provided work-arounds do not address the core issue. I have several machines and one of them has the problem of not prompting to replace. All of my other machines prompt for replacement. Please, provide a solution to return the replacement prompt

How do we all replicate that over here please? Remember, we are all end users just like you. Autodesk Support is elsewhere, through your accounts page.

Is this a sudden new problem for that one user? or has always happened for quite some time?

Or is it file specific? or all files?

Which method of "insert" are they using? And everyone else?

What is unique about tat one AutoCAD compared to everyone else? Location, VPN, where files are stored, mobile vs desktop?
Where is the source block coming from?

Did you reset that AutoCAD program yet? Or restart the PC?
