model space not showing in viewport

My model space is not showing in the viewport. The grid is showing and a weird dotted half a circle line (which is not showing in the model space). The file contains a map, and is constructed out of many layers. The file was given to us so I did not draw it myself. All the layers in the viewport seem to be thawed. I hope somebody can help as the problem gets more urgent every day (due to upcoming deadline).

I am using Autocad 2018 student version and my OS is windows 10 64 bit.

If you like to see the same in modelspace:

Command: ZOOM extents

scnr

If you like to see the same in layout:

draw a line in modelspace, switch to layout, go into the viewport and

Command: ZOOM object last

I can see the model in the layout now, however I am not able to scale it.

Double click into the viewport (to enter the viewports modelspace) and then use ZOOM-command or mouse wheel.

If that does not work then select the viewport in the layout and verify if it's locked.

unfortunately that did not work. The problem is that the scale of the viewport is not adjustable.

Why not? Does ZOOM work and change the display scale? Please describe what you try and what the result is a bit more detailed.

If you select the viewport you can also use controls in the status bar or the property window to set a specific scale for your viewport.

Your site plan is at the arrow, you have so much other garbage so far away from it they are getting picked up in your viewport.

Sloppy source file or file cleanup is the problem, nothing else.

You will need to recreate your viewports.

Hi,

the MTEXT objects, which have too big extents, is one negative side, please look to the video showing how to get it into a viewport (using zoom to object), then switch the visual style in the viewport to "2D Wireframe" (because you only have 2D objects, but really a lot of them, so a 3D-visual style does not make sense for that.

Hello,

I need URGENT assistance as well on this. I have tried doing everything that is advised in these posts but there is still no model in my Viewport. I am getting so irritated with AutoCAD. I am dyslexic so it makes everything so much harder. I have been working on one drawing now for over two hours. HELP IS IMMEDIATELY REQUIRED PLEASE!!

Agree with Alfred, it's the best way to get help.

A simple solution for most of the issues is:

In Model tab, select your object, start MOVE command and cancel the command [ESC]

Go to your layout tab, jump into your viewport (you know what i mean?)

and then, command: ZOOM<enter>O<enter>P<enter><enter>

Can you see your objects now?

If yes, the only problem was to "find" the objects, in 99% it is because some object in your model are far far away from the other ones and the zoom factor is very low.

If not, try it with a new viewport again.

If you share your DWG, we can check what your problem is.

Do you know how soul destroying this actually is to try and keep trying and you are just not getting it. I was diagnosed with dyslexia in my final year and I am so upset that I have received no help. No help even at the beginning of this degree on how to use AutoCAD.

I have attached my DWG AutoCAD file. As you can see it is a huge file and I am trying to do sections to scale it down in layout but for the life of me can I... NO!!! I have also now lost the ribbon and I cannot get that back. So upsetting.

I want this in viewport but it does not show. Then I will continue to section the floor plan like this. So what the hell am I doing wrong. Sorry I am frustrated with this as I have been starring at the screen for hours trying to work this out.

What is your problem?

i open your file and i can see in both layouts parts of your drawing.

See my attached file, i added one blue and one magenta rectangle,

this way it is easy to check what part of modelspace you are seeing in you layout viewports.

But now, i don't know what your problem is?

My try to teach you:

Go to your Layout, go into your viewport (command MSPACE or by double-click inside the viewport.)

Now,

start PAN command to move the view target

or use press&hold the middle mouse wheel/button for PAN

or Zoom in and out and command zoom an zoom window.

ZOOM and PAN you are using 100x the day,

it is the same inside a viewport.
