Rotate an object around an axis other than the Z axis

If my view is in the X/Y plane, how can I rotate an object around the X or Y axis of a given point? ROTATE and 3D ROTATE default to only rotating the object around the Z axis in an orthographic view and I get tired of making side views for such a simple procedure. I can't work in an isometric or free rotate view, I must always be in a "plan"view for other of my tools to work correctly. I can explain in more detail if that would help.

Thank you!! The secret language of AutoCAD will never cease to frustrate me. On that point, is there some list or even a poster I could hang on the wall which lists all the valid commands you can invoke in AutoCAD?

That PDF is a great start, and I appreciate it, but it wouldn't have helped me find the answer to my question today. Is there a more comprehensive list of commands? For example including ROTATE, 3DROTATE, and ROTATE3D and any other "secret" ways to rotate I may not know of yet?

Press F1 and search for what you are looking for. You will be able to find all that is required if you look DEEP ENOUGH

Frankly, I do not think a list of AutoCAD commands would be that helpful. Many years ago after using another CAD system I was introduced to AutoCAD. I wanted to create a line parallel to another line. I searched and searched for the "parallel" command but couldn't find it. I was later told by an experienced user that what I needed to use was "offset". Who would have guessed?

Today the best way to find an appropriate AutoCAD command is to do a google search on the task you are trying to do then pick a search result that starts with: "https://knowledge.autodesk.com.." It is interesting to note that AutoCAD promotes the use of the 3drotate command and almost hides rotate3d which is a much more useful command. Do a google search on "autocad rotate in 3d" and it will lead you to 3drotate. YOu will need to dig down a few pages to find rotate3d!

Not sure what variable controls the command line display for this feature but when I type "rotate" at the command line I see 5 options to select from: ROTATE, ROTATE3D, VPROTATEASSOC, 3DROTATE, and DIMROTATED.
