I have a client, who has a file they started from an old autocad template, in which they are drawing new linework, dimensions, leaders and text in a layer that is set to white, but it they appear, in modelspace, as though they are grey. He's using Civil 3D but I don't think this is because of the Civil 3D but because of the legacy issues from the original file.

Interestingly, when I imported the template setting from Civil 3D, and started to draw new leaders and dimensions and the same layer, they now come in white. So we have a solution and he's fixing the file, but I am very curious as to what the original problem is and if there is some setting that I am missing that could just fix this from the get go without having to redraw a lot of dims and leaders and so forth.

Without seeing the file I could suggest to check if the layer is locked. Locked layers have a fade control (LAYLOCKFADECTL) that will make they appear faded and white would look grey if faded.

Hi,

>> layer that is set to white

Sorry to ask, which "white"? Color 7 or 250 or 255 or true-color 255,255,255?

...and which background color of your modelspace display (if you are referring to modelspace)

There exist differences between these "whites" and they depend on the background color (except of true-color)!

Also verify the setting for transparency display, for your plot-setting if a CTB or STB is in use,

Next which version of AutoCAD and update (command _ABOUT) as well as which version of graphic card (command _GRAPHICSCONFIG) which should always be known to identify display issues.

Now you see why we are asking for the file, because there are too many questions open without seeing the file 😉

I suggest that you

Start a new file

XREF your Drawing file into it

Bind it

I realize you probably help a lot of people who are not very skilled or precise with the software we use, but I can't imagine saying 'white' when I mean 250 or 255.

And it's not transparency as far as I can tell.
