AutoCAD - Dimstyle text size

Sorry, this has probably been asked before, but not having much luck.

My drawing is set to 1:1 which means 1 paper mm = 0.001 drawing meters. Drawing UNITS is set to millimeters.

So when I try to add a dimension, the text is way too small. Every time I change it, it looks find in the little preview box, but doesn't look like it applies once the change is made and the dim style is set current.

How can I get the dimension style to show the right text and arrowhead size?? It doesn't seem to matter what I put for numbers it doesn't change. I am guessing it has something to do with the annotative scale being 1:1??

Can you post the file here. Just wanna see if what we read is what is there 🙂 That will save a lot of time, in doing the troubleshooting.

This is the situation and the settings I have currently. I don't want to mess around with the annotative scale of it being 1:1 since it is going out to a client who may need to adjust it. Plus it has already been sent out with this scale and the client ok'd it.

So do I just create a new text style at 0 height, and bump the size up by 10,000 in the dimstyle? Not sure. This dwg template is also being given to someone use to revit and not acad so I need to make it easy.

My department standard is the choose a scale that looks good when printed from paper space, so this is a bit backwards thinking for myself. This is for another department converting revit models to acad drawings.

Edit your dim style and make the text bigger... run a test to make sure it appears the way you want it to before you dim everything. Also consider at what annotative scale your viewport will be on your sheet.

I think making the text bigger may work, but it would be a really big number, I think I figured out the size would have to be 230200.00!! That seems a bit unreasonable to me. There will be no viewport, just a model space drawing.

First - don't use annotative dims if you are insisting on the scale staying set to 1:1.

Second - use the STYLE command and set the text height to 0, yes zero.

Third - open the dimstyle editor, create a nonannotative dim style using the annotative one as the basis, change the text height (it will let you change it now that text height is 0) and try 100. While in there set the Scale factor back to 1 in the Primary Units tab.

There are lots of ways to skin a cat, given your post this is how I would handle it.

We need to look at DIMTXT.

DIMTXT is the relationship of TEXTSIZE to DIMSCALE.
Record your desired text size. For us (Imperial) this is 5 inches.
Record your default dimension scale. For us this is 48.

5.0 / 48.0 = 0.104167

Command "DIMTXT" 0.104167

Command "-DIMSTYLE" "Apply" and select existing objects to update.
Notice the hyphen "-" in front.

Permanently set DIMTXT to the standard dimension style when satisfied.

Now, when changing drawing scale, DIMSCALE will also need to be set.
Because DIMTXT is set, no other dimension variable will need adjusting
for this new drawing scale.

I have taken all your things into consideration and came up with something that the department can work with for now.

1. Changed my drawing units from meters to millimeters since that was the request.

2. Left the original scale of 1:1 or 1 paper Millimeter = 0.001 drawing Meters

3. Made a new text style, using Paper Text Height of 0, and did make it annotative, when I don't, things get bigger when I do dimension.

4. Made a dimension style. Changed my arrowhead size to 254000.00 and text size to 203200.00 (a multiple of the standard sizes we use) and left it annotative. As soon as I check that to off or don't use those very large numbers, everything gets really big. Also changed the Extend beyond dim lines to 50000.00 and Offset to 75000.00. Some crazy numbers but this is what it looks like in the end which is what they want to see.

Obviously it has something to do with the mm units and the very small 1:1 scale factor, but for now they are happy so thanks for the help!!

And what is the Text STYLE assigned to the Dimension Style? If it has a fixed height, that will overrule the Dimension Style's text size setting.

Dimstyle text style is set to Arial 3-32 which I created which is paper text height 3/32" annotative.
