I'm in working on ACAD 2023 and trying a simple command. Offset. I have attached a .dwg file. The P-line in Red I can offset it to the opposite side of the white lines it does it just fine. When I try to offset it to toward the white lines it won't offset, which is the way I'm needing to offset it to.

I'm confused why it won't offset the way I'm needing it to go

CLOSED or open is a property of polylines.

How many corners for a rectangl?

A Rectang needs 4 vertex and CLOSE

or the stupid rectangle needs 5 corners (5 vertex, the 1st and the 5th on top og the 1st)

The PEDIT command has a close option but in this case it adds another curved segment. Instead grip the end of the curved segment/vertex I mentioned before and snap it to the end of the horizontal segment. It offsets fine (even though it is technically still "open") if you use the close option after snapping the segments it still offsets without issue.

You've always been able to hatch a polyline by just picking just a point. You can even use a hatch gap tolerance to hatch one with a gap.

Just pick the polyline an close it in the Properties Palette.
