I cant extrude a solid closed block I created

I am trying to extrude a block I created along a line. I have done this many times in other files, and it has always been very easy. the crazy part is sometimes when i insert the block at the other end of the line i want it to path it works. there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind it, other than trying it over and over until it agrees to path the solid.

steps I have been using are as follows:

* create a block with polyline and close it at the end

* insert block a point i select in block editor

* explode block (it shows closed in properties once i do this)

* extrude

after i try to extrude the block the following appears 95% of the time and the other 5% it works:

*cannot create solid from open curve

*cannot sweep or extrude non-planar object

*unable to extrude the selected object

I am 100% certain the block is closed.

I am very frustrated since it occasionally works, but need a solution to complete a technical report for a diploma in mining engineering technology.

I don't understand what you're trying to do. Please post your .dwg here.

Hi,

Open curves always create surfaces, but closed curves can create either solids or surfaces depending on certain settings.

you may need to check your Z values .

>> unable to extrude the selected object

Extrude command work under a certain condition that must be available , some times USERS make errors that prevent successful procedure . please try to read this link that may help >> Click <<
