Hi there,

We have a problem with a drawing and an Xref.

We upgraded recently to Autocad 2019 (not sure if that has something to do with it, but it started after the upgrade)

So when the user saves the Xref, when opening the drawing that contains it, it appears moved. Even though it is on a locked layer and we are sure the user has not moved the Xref.

Is there any reason why it is happening? We never had a problem like this before in the last 15 years.. and this drawign is one of the most important we have, so we are really concerned about it.

Thank you

Sonia

if it's happening from others ... you may need to check your drawing save format .

@Anonymous wrote:

Something has been changed in the XREF file. Maybe BASEPOINT, it's really hard to tell without the files in question. what is being done to the XREF before the user saves it.

What exactly do you mean by moving? Distance and direction may point to what the issue is.

So you have a drawing file that has another file xrefed into it. When you save the drawing file, the xref file's X/Y coordinates change and it is in a different place? Or do you mean that the file path for the xref has changed, thus moving the file?

Thank you all for your fast answers!

When I say move, I mean the Xref appears moved down and to the left (changing the coordinates X - Y), so then we have the building moved and all the facilities stay where they were.

It exaclty moves the building: x=-41.5130 m and y=-52.4430 m

Then, if we recover an old version of this drawing, both, the old and the new (that appears moved when called as Xref) are at the same X - Y coordinates. That is really weird.

We think it might have something to do with the upgrade to 2019, but no idea why it happens..

Thanks!

Now we tried BASE and the one that appears moved is <0.000, 0.000, 0.000> and the one that is ok it is <-41.5130, -52.4430, 0.000> Then we changed it to this base point and it comes back to where it was.

It is a really old file and I have no idea how it was created and why it has this base so strange. Now the questions are, what should we do to avoid this happening again? and why it didn't happen before?

Do you have an add-on or background running startup routine in place? Looks to me you have something "helping/fixing" files or resetting variables or something for you on startup.

What year version and variant of AutoCAD did you migrate from?
What variant of AutoCAD2019 are you running if its not plain AutoCAD?
What does ABOUT command list as your current version?

We are working with Autocad and Autocad Plant3D.

Versions are:

- Autocad: Product versión P.46.0.0 Autocad 2019

- Autocad Plant3D: Product versión M046.04 Autodesk Autocad Plant 3D (built on: P.46.0.0 Autocad 2019)

Some people use Autocad Plant3D to modify drawings, but it shouldn't be a problem with that, right?

We'll look for the "helping/fixing" thing you said.

Your problem may indeed be a feature in P3D "helping" fix a problem you do not want fixed. Surprised you never mentioned anything before I asked. You'll have to find out from dedicated Plant3D users in that forum too.

FWIW Both of your packages are missing the latest updates. Fix that now.

Your plain AutoCAD seats probably need this installed at a minimum if you do not have it already https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-autocad-plant-3d-2019-object-enabler.html

HTH

Hi Pendean,

Thanks a lot for all the info and recommendations. I am just a user and don’t really know about necessary updates or plug ins. What happens here where I work, IT installs everything and then we cannot install/modify anything. I will ask for the update and 2019 object enabler.

I didn’t say anything about Plant3D because the moving Xref happened also to users using only Autocad and we actually thought Autocad and Autocad Plant3D were the same when working 2D. Good to know if that is not the case.

We’ll look for the “helping” thing you say in Plant3D.

Thank you
