There are a couple of ways. *If* the button is visible in the taskbar, you can click it to toggle the status**. Or you can type in SELECTIONCYCLING and change the value to 0.

**I can't imagine why Autodesk decided this, but this button is hidden by default. You can make the button visible (and I'd suggest making them ALL visible) by clicking the hamburger button in the far right lower corner. Checking the option only makes the button visible, it does not turn on that option.

Hi,

just because of the word "annoying" in the title ... please see the advantage of the popup too.

Whenever you have multiple objects under your cursor when you do a left-mouse-click to select an object this gives you the best choice to be specific about which of these objects you really want to select.

Clearly, having this ON all the time can make the cursor slower in big projects, but knowing the advantage of SELECTIONCYCLING and activating it when needed could be really helpful!

I don't believe anyone said it wasn't useful. But if you don't need or want it on at a given moment, it should be obvious how to turn it off. The status bar button can be used fairly easily, if it were only visible by default.

The question as stated shows that the OP does not know what that "annoying pop-up" is for. I'm pretty sure that implies the OP thinks it isn't useful. My point is to be careful before saying anything new and unknown is annoying and needs to be turned off. It's an opportunity to learn a function that they are not aware of might actually find useful.

Hi there,

Maybe I'm misreading your message, but I'm pretty sure Ctrl + W turns on and off selection cycling 👇...

The command CLOSE might be the one you're looking for. Ctrl + W will just keep turning on or off selection cycling.

I don't know, but you might be able to change the command alias to make Ctrl + W close your drawing...

Hopefully that helps.

I have to explain myself, I guess.
Yes, CTRL+W turns on/off the selection cycling. But it's a pretty common hot key combination to close an active tab for browsers (chrome, firefox, etc.) and many other programs such as Bluebeam Revu, Double commander, etc. So, expect the same behavior for Autocad as well and I get upset if I get this annoying selection cycling "feature" instead of tab closing.

So if you really wanted to just use CTRL+W to get out of the drawing, I found a way.

1. Jump into the CUI editor and go to Keyboard Shortcuts.

2. Go to the command that says CTRL+HOME, and change it to CTRL+W.

This should allow you to close the drawing tab by using CTRL+W.

But yes, like others have said, CTRL+F4 does the same thing. But if you're quicker at CTRL+W it may be a winner.

(Also, I'm not sure if it's a universal thing that CTRL+HOME closes the drawing, or if it's just at my work. So if it doesn't work then sorry).

Hope it works,

Lo
